Maybe it's time to be fucking worried and stop assuming the ship will
magically right itself. Him of all people who had about the worst
performance today of anyone on the field. This attitude sucks and if it's
the sentiment of the team, it's exactly why they're tanking and will
continue to.

It's his responsibility to use his talents the way he should. Juking,
stutter stepping, and trying to go around the ends are not what he's good at
but 80% of the time, that's what he does. I agree too the oline at this
point sucks. The dline is average, maybe.
And Ware got a concussion. With 10 days he should be back, but you know the
awareness given to these kinds of injuries.

The backfield is a mess, Bill. Jake has to still have a bruise from
that shot he took on the thigh Sunday. Bradshaw has two bad ankles and
a broken bone in his foot. Ware has the concussion like you said. Even
Gartrell "Bob Marley" Johnson has a groin pull or something like that.
You may have to suit up. What number do you want?

The thing I've been noticing for a while now is that Jacobs simply
can't break a tackle. I mean, sometimes he'll "run the course"
properly (as Tiki would say to his OL) and sometimes he'll make some
nice cuts, and get into the other team's backfield, but then only to
be tackled by a goddamn cornerback. He's had some nice runs, but
sometimes I look at those runs thinking that if he could just back.
I think these problems are mechanical, and I hope TC will start
looking at that. I know a lot has been said about him needing to get
his shoulders lower, and I think there's some truth to that. But I
think there's something else, he's not getting his knees up. A lot of
times he's getting tripped up at the ankles and knees. For that, I
think he's got to get his knees up higher, much higher. Especially in
the open field (after passing the line). Even Millen alluded to it in
tonight's game, about "driving your knees into that guy". The guy I
remember who was one of the best of that was Roger Craig, and I keep
thinking that if Jacobs would just study his style then he could be a
force He's gotta be able to bust a run deep, or at least be a threat
for it, and right now it isn't.
In this particular game,there was a period when he always sliding
along the line right to the end, and then just getting stuffed at the
sideline. In at least a couple of those times, I saw that holes/lanes
were about to open , but he just wasn't being patient enough. And
even if not, just take a shot and bust through it for gods sakes. He
tried a couple of times early and then just seemed to give up on it.
I really dont buy into this whole idea of needing a "big bruiser" to
wear down a defense, I think it's artificial. It's the fact that you
run the ball that does it, that your blockers are the ones doing the
"pushing", and that you're moving the chains so that it can become
constant, that causes the real wearing down. They see that he's an
advantage for pass protection, but should it have to be that way? I
mean, it's good to max protect and chip away at times, but do you
really need an extra weakness? Isn't it really masking a weakness in
your front 5 (kinda like on defense when you constantly have to blitz
in order to establish a pass rush).
Anyways, with his vision and quickness (for a big man) he can still be
great, his ball security has improved, his attitude seems to always be
changing (I know he wants it), however I hate to say it but given his
physical attributes he sure seems to play like a pussy.

I don't know what the hell is going on with the o-line. Up until the
Plax fiasco they were a dominant group in the running game. At the
end of last season everyone put 8 in the box and dared them to throw
and the receivers couldn't beat press coverage and this line was never
a great pass blocking line. The receiving situation has improved as
has Eli which should take pressure off the running game so I don't
know what's happened. McKenzie is getting a little old but nobody
else should be slipping unless they have injury issues we don't know
about.
There is one player who's no longer here who was a big part of the
running game and it's not a back. Michael Matthews was their blocking
tight end for 2 seasons and he was basically given away at the end of
camp to make way for Darcy Johnson. I was kind of surprised by this
move at the time it happened since he was a great run blocker. I
don't know how much effect this has but I'm just grasping for
something right now.

They always said this oline played over its talent level because they
played well as a group. Snee is the only pro-bowler I believe.
Remember how long it took these "overacheivers" to get respect? Well
now it has taken to long for everyone to admit there is a problem. As
you correctly point out it has been goin on since Plax went down and
it was apparent they couldn't impose their will on stacked fronts in
the power running game ala the Parcellsian era olines.. But it was
disguised for awhile when we played shit teams early this year.
I guess the "peak" for these guys was short lived, only a few years,
but the drop off has been dramatic.
If improvement is not made in 10 days it will be curtains..

Hopefully the Kid from Uconn will be better than Deihl.
Deihl has held his own but like most of the guys it looks like the
lack of pure talent has finally overtook the "Sum is greater than the
parts" explaination.
I realize they prolly wont overhaul the whole line in 1 offseason but
Snee is the only one safe IMO, even after he was largely responsible
for the SD loss.

what's coming (Dawkins anyway, last night). Why does the other team
seem to know what the Giant O is going to do? Sometimes it seems
like they other D knows the play better than the Giant O.
Having said that, Diehl was having trouble last night. Seubert was
having trouble last night. McKenzie was having trouble last night.
Aren't all three "damaged" (Diehl back, Seubert shoulder, McKenzie
leg)?

bigger than they play....the D in particular. When is the last time
you heard anyone on this team take responsibility? Say their effort
and their results were unacceptable? Essentially what we get instead
is the same old excuse making and wishful thinking.

There is a total lack of communication going on ... on at least 6
occasions ... the Oline was double or triple teaming one guy and
letting 1 or 2 other guys to go through untouched ... and the backs
weren't picking up anything ...
On safety blitzes ... the "hot" reciver didn't seem to know he was
hot ... until the incomplete pass was thrown 5 yards behind him as he
was continuing his pattern ...
Defense also filled with the same crap ... Players blocking each other
rather than tackling ... There was one that was absolutely comical ...
Where three Stooges combined to give the runner a hole ... D backs
double teaming one guy and leaving another one free ... In nickle
packages ... quite oftn you had 4 playing man to man and the 5th guy
playing a zone guarding air ...
And special teams ??? Coverage on kicks and blocking on receiving
kicks is atrocious ... again I recall another comical play where 4
defenders were in perfect position to shut down the receiver ... 4 all
unblocked ... and they all over ran their lanes ...and a 15 yard punt
return resulted ...
And quite often ... I feel the opponents know our plays ...
Did everyone get stupid all of a sudden ???
I have no beef with any individual's play ... even the maligned CC
Brown isn't really playing that badly compared to the team as a
whole ...
But there is something seriously lacking ... I'm almost convinced that
they should be taking air readings in the new practice facility ...
Toxic mind destroying chemicals from when that was a dump site must be
emanating and making them all stupid ...
Players on defense,offense and special teams ... all being stupid ...
Offensive Coordinator and Defensive coordinator also being stupid ...
Come to think of it .... the Jets are getting stupider also ... but
then again ... Maybe that's just being a Jet ...

totally misplayed and wound up laying on the ground watching the
runner go by ...

Osi yesterday? No sacks, assists or tackles. Some pressure, but not
impressive.
I felt that there was a lot of holding. Not drag the player down holding,
but grabbing the jersey and not releasing as Osi or Kiwi were trying to pull
away to make a tackle. There was a reply where you could clearly see the
jersey being pulled as Kiwi tried to pull out of the block to pursue.
