You know it's bad when a guy like Reggie Jackson--a NY sports legend
and prolific trash talker in his own right--is embarrassed for the
Jets. "Shut up, play football. What are you talking about Bill
Belichick and these people for?" That's his embarrassment talking.
Jackson is right, too. I said it too, before the last game: "if the
Jets are confident, they would just shut up and play." All that smack
was a sign that they lacked confidence, and it showed on game day.

Ryan said: "I know they say we are a great team and I see the
sarcasm. Well, they are going to find out if we are a great team or
not, I can tell you that much."

What did they learn? Patriots 45, Jets 3. Greatness was confirmed,
alright, the other team's. Ryan was speechless after the game. They
found out as Ryan said, "I can tell you that much."

And as if the point needed further reinforcement, Braylon Edwards had
this to say after the game: “They embarrassed us on purpose. I don’t
want to say that they ran it up, but at the end of the day, they ran
it up.” How cold hearted of them, not showing a great Jets team the
*pity* they so richly deserved.

So, here we are, roughly a month later, and the Jets have been back at
it. The quest for greatness continues. Cromartie called Brady an
asshole, like any great team would. Rex questions Brady's work ethic,
said he's tired of his "antics" (that's rich). Not satisfied that he
has both feet in his mouth, he takes on Belichick too. "It's
personal," he tells us, applying the "its personal" template he used
with Peyton and the Colts that he believed led to victory the week
earlier.

Ryan claimed they were going to /find out/ if they are a great team or
not. I question if that was possible--learning that is. Learning isn't
ignoring everything that fails to confirm what you already believe.

As Santayana said, those who cannot remember the past are condemned to
repeat it.

Well, history is upon us, once again.

Pats 41-Jets 13.

jeez... the jets and pats are not practicing law, medicine or fighting
a shooting war. it is a game that people watch for entertainment.
the trash talk and gamesmanship is supposed to be fun. some people
take this crap too seriously. reggie... it is a game... enjoy it. i
also did not like that reggie disrespected greg buttle. greg played
at a high level in the nfl for a good long time. he is also a pen
state lb hall of famer. tell reggie that there are sports figures
other than himself and jack niklaus that have tremendous
accomplishments and are worth listening to. even us fans are allowed
to have an opinion. if reggie still wants to be the straw that sturs
the drink, he should stay out of the nfl and stick to blasting
chambliss, thurm and billy martin

Reggie knows what he's talking about from an opposite perspective too. As an
all-time great, he knows how he would have reacted if a trash talking
pitcher had dissed him going in to the playoffs. Bagging on Brady or
Bellichick is taking the same risk, just a different sport.

Rex and the Jets should take the same advice.

I was thinking the same thing, cause Reggie was quite a talker himself.
