What was the 250, 000 fine for? Creative camera work?
No. They were fined for having a camera in the wrong location. What they
were doing with it was completely legal. And they weren't the only team
doing it. Simple.
<plonk>
It was in the wrong location. Stick it a few feet away and it would have
been okay. What they were doing with the camera was completely legal.
The league got upset cause BB, in their opinion, ignored a memo sent out
in 2006 (you know...two years AFTER their last SB win). BB interpreted
the memo to say it was okay to use the camera as long as the footage
wasn't used in the game being played. The memo allowed for the
interpretation but the league ruled against him and fined him heavily
for ignoring the memo.
Nowhere did the league fine him for "cheating."

Why do you keep doing this Glenn, He's answering a troll. You know

It's beginning to sound like you're still upset that Belichick spurned
your pathetic team and is now coaching the Pats.
You know he wasn't cheating. He broke a rule. And was fined heavily
for it. To keep things in perspective, his fine is like us paying a
$250.00 fine for speeding.

You've proven repeatedly that you aren't very bright, why stop now?
The camera location was illegal, not the filming of the sideline.
Grow a brain, Greenberg.
I want to see a thousand videocams at the 50 yard line.
The first: Belichick and the Patriots did not explain the misunderstanding
to the media and the fans. It seems odd they would do such a stupid thing.
Obviously, you can videocam the same thing sitting in the first row of the
stands. He has never explained this properly. His mistake.
The second: Goodell made a big mistake overblowing the fines way out of
proportion to the crime. The result is the media way overhyped the
violation. That was Goodell's inexperience showing.
Why? There's something to be said for winning with dignity and
class. Mangini has paid the price for being a weasel..... acting like
immature fools and rubbing it in just puts Pats fans in the same category as
all the other whiners.
Just how obvious is it?

You're playing semantics.
Denver- cooking the salary cap books so they could sign
Elway..Deception=cheating
49'ers - Scripting plays in advance then faking headset problems so the
other team had to lose theirs and couldn't react. Deception=cheating
Giants- Opening freight doors causing winds for opposing teams FG kickers.
Deceptio=cheating
Dolphins- JJ sending asst. to opposing teams press boxes to retrieve game
plans in trash. Deception=cheating

What semantics am I playing? You're the one stuck on the cheating. No one's
said that but you and the Mediots and bitter fans of other teams.

The Pats cheated. Overblown? You bet. But that's a different argument
altogether.
Did the Patriots really damage you that bad mentally? I mean c'mon
dude it's a friggin game fer chrissake! With your mentality every team
would be cheating frauds not deserving of anything. Say it with me..
"The Patriots are the greatest NFL franchise of all time" trust me you
will feel better when you get over the denial. Free yourself!
> The Pats cheated.
Oh, because you say so, yup I'm convinced now.
The fact that I've asked you twice what your definition is and you
can't/won't speaks volumes.
Oh I forgot. You're definition would be: taping defensive signals in plain
view is what cheating is. I got it now.
Apparently it's the same as yours, because you said the Giants cheated when
they did something overtly too.
I see. I guess this is why you think what you do because that is totally
inaccurate.
You can't have a camera anywhere in a booth or the feild of play.
If the guy want's to buy a ticket, then I guess it's OK, but being in the
stands and on the sideline where you can't move to get a better shot are
more than a few feet.

It is still cheating. When a player holds, he is cheating, when a player
goes offsides, he is cheating, two players go in motion without resetting
before the snap it is cheating, it just isn't cheating with electronics that
are meant to give a team at some point that competitive advantage Goodell
can't see.
If there was no competitive advantage to any of this, why would the Pats be
doing it?
Are they trying to make a video collage of opposing DC's?
Not true.
If you are spotted in the stands, a player can hold a towel in your line of
sight and unless you buy the whole sideline of seats, you can't move to a
better angle.

No, that was Goodell sending a "Don't F*%K with me" message.
IMO, the fines were BS. BB should have been suspended.

Yeah, but they don't. I'd have a hard time believing that the team would
get away with getting a video camera into the stadium anyway, even their
home stadium. Otherwise, teams would do it.
I'm still not sold on the idea that it's legal to do it from the stands
anyway.

I would have preferred a suspension over the loss of draft pick.
You can't film an opposing coach anywhere on a sideline.
Where is it legal to put a camera on the field?
Not at all MZ, he did that covertly, those doors were not visible to
the other teams. He didn't tell the other teams that he was opening
the doors up. Picture the players coming down that tunnel. Can you see
the doors that open to the outside? If you picture the stands, it's
probably a good 100 feet or more. Taking it one step further, not
knowing how the stadium is constructed, the kicker or someone looking
right down the tunnel may not even see the doors. They could be highr
then field level if the field is dug below street level. The wind
tunnel effect would still be there.
Hey, you can claim your high moral ground, I respect that. I just
believe your wrong. That and no NFL official ever saying he cheated.
This has nothing to do with morality. It has to do with violating rules to
gain an advantage outside the field of play. Whether or not the NFL used
the word "cheat" (have they ever?) is irrelevant. The action is. And it
makes no sense why you and cloud dreamer would try to justify the act or to
say it's akin to a false start, or whatever you guys were saying when
bringing up game rules.
Belichick cheated. Merriman cheated. Rodney cheated. I don't really care,
because at the end of the day none of those things made that big of a
difference to the outcome of games. But it's silly to say "no you've got it
all wrong -- he didn't cheat, he broke the rules." That's a game of
semantics and it doesn't get you anywhere.
Many felt that way. I think Goodell's punishment was just about right.
Most fans would.
What you're going to hear is that the rules don't specifically say you
can't record from the stands.
> This has nothing to do with morality.
> It has to do with violating rules to

It absolutely does go to morality. Not only are you calling Belichick
I liar you're calling Goodell a liar as well.
> Whether or not the NFL used
> the word "cheat" (have they ever?) is irrelevant.
Ofcourse it's relevent. Just not in your world.
A team is assigned several filming locations from which they can film
anything within sight. They are required to wear the bib and the
location must be enclosed (ie roof overhead of some sort).
That's the whole point...they could film the signals from those
locations no problem. The only thing the Pats are guilty of is doing it
from the sidelines (which BB did because the rule did say it could not
be done if the film was used in the game being played. Since it wasn't,
BB went ahead - an understandable interpretation).
The only ones using the word "cheat" are the mediots. No one in the
league uttered the word.
"No competitive advantage" - Ralphy
Rick, are you saying that BB told the other teams he was filming them?
That this guy on the Pats didn't look like 20 other guys carrying around
cameras?
Oh, and since I have been to Giants stadium a number of times, the door in
question is visible from the stands, and yes, they do open and close it. So
far I can't recall a teams kicker overtly effected by it.
This just reeks of homerisim.
First off, I am sure that both teams have there "assinged filming locations"
and that both teams know where they are.
So how stupid would it be to put your OC or DC in plain sight of these
cameras.
Look, I don't particularly think Mangini is a good HC, especially after the
play calling I witnessed in the final three minutes of the Cleveland game,
but he isn't a dumb ass and you would have to be a dumb ass to enable what
you are inferring.
Why would they get penalized if they didn't cheat?
How's that? What lies have I said they've told?
>> Whether or not the NFL used
>> the word "cheat" (have they ever?) is irrelevant.
>
> Ofcourse it's relevent. Just not in your world.
It's irrelevant because, as I said, they didn't use the word "cheat" in
other instances that you've called cheating.
> Rick, are you saying that BB told the other teams he was filming them?
> That this guy on the Pats didn't look like 20 other guys carrying around

Of course he didn't. He didn't take steps to hide it. Didn't put it a Little
Debby box and sling it from his hip. Thought he was within the rules. I
don't believe you can unknowingly cheat. You can however unknowingly break a
rule.

I'll defer to your explanation. Parcells obviously thought it did. He
admitted to it in his little exchange with Choir Boy Young. But what does
Parcells know?

I'm just using your poetic license. Roger Goodell said that no competitive
advantage was gained. That's part of YOUR criteria for cheating, you said so
right above here. Take a look. So Goodell must be lying when he said that
because you've determined that he must have gained one, just like Belichick
was lying when he told Goodell and the press that his interpertation of the
rule allowed him to film. I'm following that

Again, cheating in it's purest requires deception. All of those instances
used deception. Belichick didn't. Check your dictionary. Might surprise you
"....greatest NFL franchise of all time...."
Tooo funny
Come back when you got 6 rings - then we'll talk.
No he didn't. He said no competitive advantage was gained in-game. Of
course there was a competitive advantage. Why else would Belichick do it?
And you forgot one. Where did I say Belichick lied?

Either that, or you're misinterpreting what Goodell said.

Says you.

That's not what this portion of the post was about. I've left it unsnipped
to remind you that you're hanging your hat on the fact that the NFL never
used the word "cheating". So when HAVE they used that word? Did they use
it to describe the instances that you listed earlier as "cheating"? -- THAT
is why it's irrelevant.
So MORON, anytime someone gets penalized, they're cheating? Tell me you're
not that stupid to open up that door. What am I saying of course you are!!!
It's interesting that you're comparing yourself to a child. I guess we do
see eye to eye on some things.

The electronics thing is a red herring.
Are you saying players that intentionally hold or jump offsides do it

Which perfectly describes our FANATICS in here...out of touch. That's
the difference between a fan and a FANATIC.
> Rick, being a dad who has coached is kids in every PAL sport in our town,

Glenn, I know it first hand as well. I was coaching our towns Little League
All Star team one year. We had a Coaches/Parents meeting before the
tournament. We wanted to outline the rules of play i.e. minimum playing time
and what they thought our teams philosophy should be. In other words, did
they want us to play to win or play everyone equally even if it didn't give
the team the best chance to win. Bad mistake. To a parent they wanted equal
playing time and could care less about winning. What these parents don't
understand is that the kids want to win. They actually know who the best
players are. They have no idea what a kid feels like if he makes a mistake
costing a game. Even though most kids don't take it out on them, they're
still kids.
People can say all they want about losing being a learning thing. Kids don't
buy that.
Sports is about winning with class and dignity, and accepting losses and
learning from them.
That year, we won our 1st game and then lost our next two. We played to the
parents wishes. While we were rotating players in and out, we heard
grumbling from both the kids and the parents. A couple of boys actually came
up to us and said that they shouldn't be in and that others should play.
Learned our lesson that year, it's easier to keep the kid's happy than the
parents.
