Next Thursday, the Dolphins’ rookies are to report for camp. A week later the veterans come in. The first opportunity to get some idea what this team will be like begins just after that. I’m looking forward to camp until it starts, then I will be looking forward to the first practices in pads, the first scrimmage and the first exhibition game. Once any of those arrive, it will just be noise as we wait for the first real game.
When the games begin… well, we all know that the Dolphins’ schedule starts easy and gets tough. The first three games are key. They play the Bucs, Chargers and Jets. The Bucs will be good, the Chargers not so much and the Jets should be terrible. If they can’t win those three games, they have no business thinking about a playoff spot. Gase cannot escape a 4 – 1 start this season.
So here’s a surprise… the Patriot-loving Peter King anointed the Dolphins with a #12 ranking in his pre-season list. That’s amazing, considering how much of a homer King is regarding the Pats (#1 of course). Here’s what Peter had to say about his #12 ranking of the dark horse Dolphins
“Why I have the Dolphins 12th: Against a demonstratively easy slate to close the season, Miami finished with nine wins in its last 11 games, helped by emerging star back Jay Ajayi. But after finishing 10-6, there were problems to address. It was backup QB Matt Moore, after all, who put up an average of 27.3 points per game in the last three starts of the year. Starter Ryan Tannehill, somehow, still conjures question marks entering his sixth year; no one’s really sure if he’s the Dolphins’ long-term quarterback. He’s a quiet guy, mostly, and leaves to other to lead. But the offensive weaponry is good enough to win, and win big, this year, with Jay Ajayi (4.9 yards per rush) and the receiving trio of Jarvis Landry, Devante Parker and Kenny Stills. For a team with a dominating presence in the middle of the defensive line (Ndamukong Suh), this sure was a generous defense against the run last year. The new coordinator, Burke, will focus on that throughout camp. Most important factor to this team this year: Getting the offense to be more explosive. The weapons are there. How about the dolphins?
As for me, I certainly am a homer, but I've calmed a bit since the days where I would actually pray to Jesus (and baby Jesus) and beseech them to have a sniper kill Dan Marino when he dropped back to pass. Nowadays I'm still a homer but I appreciate competition. During games watched with friends I'll often say "Wow. Nice catch". Or "Great play" when the other team makes a play. My friends aren't as liberal-minded as me, and give me dirty looks when I do. But as I explain to them, good plays are good plays. Period.

I don't disagree with the Patriots being ranked #1. King is simply not an objective reporter with regards to the Patriots and all things Brady.

Not at #12. King's list has them above the Broncos (13th and even the Cardinals (15th). Even if Miami proves to be a better team than either of those two, they may well end with a worse record. If we are ignoring the subjective BS and talking strictly W/L records, I don't see Miami as being ahead of either of those two teams... you can argue about most every team on his list if you wish.

I only used his words as a rah-rah item for the start of camp. One sentence he got absolutely right: (The Dolphins) Won’t get past the wild-card unless Tannehill excels.
