The New England Patriots have bolstered their linebacker position in a surprising move, adding former New York Jets stalwart David Harris on a two-year deal, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Harris is a 10-year veteran and former second round pick out of Michigan that the Jets released on June 6th. He has long been a favorite player of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

“I have a lot of respect for David Harris,” Belichick expressed in December of 2014. “That guy, first of all, he never comes of the field- not just this year but any year. The guy is like a 98, 99 percent playtime player for them every year, year after year. It’s obviously a defense that has a lot of communication and adjustments, and he’s certainly at the center of that. Both as the signal caller and then at the line of scrimmage, you can see him adjusting the front or making some type of communication calls to his teammates. He’s a very instinctive player, which unfortunately we’ve seen that first-hand. He does a good job for them. He’s been very consistent, durable, dependable, productive over a long period of time.”

All the Patriots have to do is snatch up the players that the Dolphins, Jets and Bills cut or leave unprotected and they will remain as the most talented team in the division.

I don't understand tho. He was cut over a week ago. Why didn't another team grab him? I truly don't understand.

Also, I would say that the Patriots cut some really good players every year just due to their full roster.
Last year they had to get rid of what I thought was an excellent rookie tight end in Derby. But at least they got a 5th round pick from it.

Not so much the Dolphins, but talent poor teams should glance at the Patriots roster cuts closely. They can do the same things that the Pats are doing

Harris is old and would be expensive, though the Patriots get a huge discount from players looking to catch on with a likely Super Bowl team. Not many teams have that sort of cap space that the Pats have, particularly coming out of the whole free agency orgy. The Dolphins certainly do not have any wiggle room or they surely would have been interested.

The Pats have the luxury of grabbing yet another high quality player on a deal that will no doubt be highly franchise favorable. They love signing AFCE discards to at least pump the player for information. No doubt Harris will be a valuable player as well. He will be especially highly motivated when the Pats face the Jets and the Pats have guys with similarly grindable axes sprinkled all over their roster. Nothing like having someone on your side whose eyes are glowing red when a hated rival is on the docket.

The good news is that the Pats will be facing the Cowboys in the next Super Bowl. As much as things always break the Pats way, this time they are screwed. The 'Boys are no longer just America's Team. Now they are God's Team, courtesy of Pope Francis. Jerry is covering all the bases.

Belichick, like Parcels, had a hard on for long time veterans. Look at the Patriot's 01 season. The names of ex Jets and ex Giants are all over their roster. It seems to be a winning formula and one that is self perpetuating.
