From what I've heard, money is not an issue, other than if they keep
him on the team they have to keep paying him. IOW, if they cut him
today, it won't hurt them financially.

That's my understanding too. I think they have to pay his salary for the
rest of the season, but there's no cap hit at this point and he doesn't get
paid next season unless he plays.

That was a pretty transparent stalling tactic. "There is no substitute for
the facts" as they say, but what could they possibly be trying to find out?
John, I agree with you that it has to do with money, but I figured the
Chiefs wanted to try to gauge how much of a stir this was going to cause,
and how many ticket sales this was going to cost them.
My take is that people should have the right to say stupid and even
offensive things, but that right stops at your employer's door - especially
when you are already on double secret probation.
The latest newsletter I got from a law firm (last week) suggested that
employers hire them to draft a social networking policy. Sounds like a
growth industry.

I don't think there's any doubt that it IS a growth industry. I do
quite a bit of social networking myself, and I am routinely astonished
at the things people post about themselves.
My sister has a Facebook account, but seldom logs on to it, because
she can't stand to see what her kids are posting about what they're
doing. I keep logging on, though... otherwise I wouldn't know when
they're getting married, having kids, etc. :-)

You really think the lack of LJ's 2.7 YPC is going to cost them ticket
sales?
If anything, the Chiefs are trying to gauge how what they do with him
will effect the rest of the locker room.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but are you saying most KC fans put
homophobia above production?
I'm not an LJ-hater, as many of those with man-crashes believe, but the
fact is, he hasn't been a factor in several years, and his comments
towards Haley suggests he's not a team player.
That said, I don't think he's done, and would probably do well on the
right team, with a good OL. Unfortunately, that team doesn't reside in
Kansas City.

This story changes daily, but right now my prediction is LJ will be back for
the Raiders game on Nov 15.

I'm not so sure. You're right that the story seems to change daily, but
given his 2.7 YPC (which I don't totally blame on him) and apparently
the Chiefs having already decided to get Charles more involved in the
offense, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's played his last down as
a Chief. Oh, and also the fact that Smith is back, whom they seem to
like. They're 1-6 with LJ, and he's probably gone at the end of the
year anyway, so I just don't see a lot of justification for keeping him
around, at least as the featured back.

True, they are chock full of underperforming backs already. But maybe LJ
could play QB for them. At least he's in better shape than JaMeatball

I am still a little surprised but not shocked. In the long run it is
probably the best thing for the team. In the short run this season is a
bust no matter what, so it is better to cut your losses now and go on down
the road.
