I feel that the Packers need to start looking forward to next season
and beyond. Trent Dilfer is an up and coming quarterback that, I feel,
can lead the Packers to the Super Bowl. Brett Favre, while an adequate
Quarterback, lacks the fortitude and inner strength to lead the
Packers any further than they went this year.
Reggie White only has one year left with the Pack. Let's get a top
notch young, and up and coming Quarterback such as Trent Dilfer to
lead us to the promised land!
Brett Favre, while having this stunning season, is ready for a
Don Majikowski type downfall. Please Mr. Wolf, make that move!

GO PACK!!!!!!!!

Hey, yesterday was Valentine's Day, not April Fool's.
If by some outside chance you're serious about this, comparing Farve
to the Majik man is absurd. Majik had one good season before the
downfall; Farve already *had* his downfall (2nd season) after a Majik like
1st season. He has since developed as a quality QB.

Also, we've got too much time invested in Farve to start over (especially
when we're a major playoff contender).

I agree, but I doubt that the trade would be even up. We'd probably have
to throw in Newsome or Brooks before Tampa Bay would bite.

I don't know. It just doesn't seem fair. Perhaps the trade would
happen if we threw in Robert Brooks as well. What we need is that one
QB to put us over the hump. Dilfer is just that guy!!! ;-)

What kind of packer backer are you......
Lets see...while your at it....lets trade bennett for Barry "how do
you catch a football" Word, and lets see....we'll trade Brooks
for...uhm....willie davis.
We could sit here and think about this crap all da long, but the
fact still remains....the Pack is ON track...especially with Brett, and
I wouldn't be surprised to see Reggie back for another year or TWO, if
their success continues. I respect your oppinion, but if your going to
trade Brett for some one...pick a guy who can throw more passes to his
own men.

Are you High?????????

Even my non-Packer buddies agree that Favre is the man and NONE of my
friends deny that he WILL put up hall of fame numbers in the Holmgren
system (barring major injuries) .

Dilfer has shown he is a young kid who is not as teachable as he
should be. After all, look at what Wyche did with a certain QB
without a lot of physical tools (Boomer).

It amazes me how some people can not see the intentional sarcasm of the
original post. Come on, lighten up. Even a buc fan could tell it was
meant in jest. Have some fun. After all, the packers usually have a bad
streak of getting washed ups that flounder, or letting go of people who
become stars elsewhere.

Besides, everyone knows the pack would need to trade Favre, Chumura,
White, Brooks, Jones, Newsome, Butler, Levins, and at least 15 draft
choices before the bucs would even THINK about letting go of Dilfer.

Maybe this guys right....I miss the days of lame QB's not panning out
(Hunter, Hadel, Zorn, Campbell, Majik, Dilwig, et. al.) Why settle for
greatness when you can throw away the future!!!!

As a spark to the running game, lets get Chuck Cecil back, convert him
to half back!! Just sit back and count the wins!!

You all just don't get it, do you? I sure remember a certain Trent
Dilfer marching the Buccaneers down the field in overtime to beat
the Packers once this season! This is the kind of guts we need on the
team! Brett Favre just doesn't have the "intangibles" to take our
team to teh Super Bowl.

Ron Wolf needs to pul his head out and see that Favre will get us
nowhere! We need the determination and fortitude that only Dilfer
can bring us!

What are you crazy????????
Favre is the best QB in football! No if's, and's or buts about it! I
really dont know what you see in Dilfer, How many touchdown passes did he
throw last season? Maybe three? No sir, Favre is the best thing to happen
to the Packers in a long, long time, and if you think we should get rid
of him, you are not a true blue packer fan! or else you are from
Tampa!!!!

I think perhaps that you should re-think your "analysis". The idea of
giving up one of the highest-rated quarterbacks in the league for
Trent Dilfer based on one game is ludicrous. If Trent Dilfer is the
Second Coming, where was Tampa Bay in the post-season?

Also, when it comes to guts, I can think of plenty of times Favre has
shown plenty of determination. Granted, he has made mistakes against
Dallas, but this kind of short-sighted thinking doesn't seem to make
alot of sense.

I can say that Favre has gotten better each of the past few years. He
hasn't won the big one yet, but I feel confident that he will get us
there. I was disappointed by the Packers' loss also, but hysterical
thinking like that isn't going to get us anywhere.

Trent Dilfer was the WORST RATED starting quarterback in the NFL
last year. Favre was the MVP. Why don't you make personnel decisions
for the Bears, and do all of us Packer fans a real favor?

As I'm sure Mr. Berstein is well aware, Brett Favre (w/MVP trophy firmly
in hand) is virtually untradable at this point of his career.

Hopefully, you guys are having a lot of fun at our expense. However, look-
ing at some of this stuff, it strikes me how ironic this game is. Object-
ively, if three years ago the chance had come up to trade Favre for a pick
in the top 5 to draft one of the top QB prospects coming out; how popular
do you think the idea would've been among the Packer faithful? I believe
more than one of you would've wanted Ron to do the deal. Who knows, maybe
Holmgren and his people would've gotten more out of Trent than Sam did the
past two seasons. And maybe after a couple of season with Dungy (and more
wear-and-tear on Favre) this trade might not seem as stupid as it does now.

You never know what's gonna happen tomorrow.

As was so eloquently stated via rock song in the 70's:

Sha-na-na-na-na-NAH, don't worry 'bout tomorrow, live for today. (The Dave
Clark Five (?) obviously had NFL free agency in mind when writing the
song.)

'Ah, course, you could be a Clinton man: "Don't stop thinking about

And so is tomorrow is you don't take advantage today.

What on Earth have you been smoking? Dilfer "marched the Bucs down
the field"? That's a laugh! That game was lost because of a missed FG
attempt by Jacke. Had he made the FG, the Pack would have won. It had
absolustely NOTHING to do with Favre being inadequate, or Dilfer doing a great
job. Before you start rambling about getting rid of Favre, take a look at the
Special Teams, and you'll see what lost the Tampa Bay game. Anyway, did Tampa
make it to the NFC Championship game? Did they take the division? Did they
do anything in the post-season that would single them out as a powerful force
in the NFL? NO, they didn't!! The Packers, with Favre at the helm, did all
of those things, and they'll do more next season.

JPB> Ron Wolf needs to pul his head out and see that Favre will get us

JPB> can bring us!

Trent Dilfer, while he may be a decent quarterback, can't hold a
candle to Favre. If the Pack truly wanted to replace him, they'd be wiser to
go with someone like Jim Harbaugh or Neil O'Donnell. Harbaugh took his team
to the AFC title game this year, and O'Donnell took his team to the Super
Bowl. What _exactly_ did Dilfer do? Nothing! The Vikings, Rams and Lions
each beat the Packers in the regular season this year. Does that mean we
should start swapping players with them? Hell no!! Get your priorities
straight! Swapping Dilfer for Favre would destroy the chemistry of the Packer
offense. It's a bad idea, and it just isn't going to happen.

I know that I might be butting in here, but I think I must bring some
perspective into this discussion...

As most of you remember, Brett Favre in 1991 was just like Trent Dilfer -
raw, overemotional, and wild. In his second year, he was so bad that he
was traded from the Falcons by Jerry Glanville in favor of Wade Wilson (!)

If I am correct, Favre used to ride the pine behind Don Majkowski,
remember???

In a couple of years, Dilfer will be a VERY good quarterback, maybe one of
the best in the NFL (hopefully, for Tampa Bay!). Remember, even Steve
Young had a bad first few years (although, admittedly, they WERE with the
Bucs ;-)... )

Having said that, however, at this time, trading Dilfer for Favre
straight-up would be absolutely STUPID.
