I can't stand the Cowboys, Jerky Jones, Phony Romo, and the whole sickening,
bogus America's Team shtick. I loved the win by San Diego!
The Chargers certainly have a knack for finishing strongly and they've
parlayed that this season into being perhaps the hottest team in the league
with the season clock running down. They had so many problems, and I
disbelieved so much in Norv Turner that I had written them off before the
season as not being any kind of credible contender, but who nevertheless
would probably back
into another AFCW title over an awful division by default. But nobody can
deny
that somehow Turner gets this team to perform at its best, at the best
time of the season, and right now a deep playoff run is starting to look
like a
strong possibility for the Bolts.
Go Chiefs anyway!

I'm not buying that. Norv has got the team buying into his program. So much
so that the team gave Norv the game ball after the cowgirls game. Norv has
this team believing in itself and winning despite an enormous spate of
injuries that would have had most teams dropping out of contention.

I have to admit that I am coming around to this conclusion also. There
have just been a lot of players speaking up for Norv, and it sounds (to
my ears, at least) sincere, not just players saying what they're
supposed to.

It's not fair to blame the "America's Team" label on them, but
otherwise I agree.
I'm in favor of AFC West teams doing well, unless the win hurts the
Broncos. And my brother lives in Poway when he's not in Thailand,
so good for the Chargers - except for likely costing the Broncos the
division.

I like the AFA , Boise pairing, especially in Notre Dame is in it -
great rivalry.

Couple of devastating RBs, but Amundson was a QB too. That was a good
era under Majors.
Crutch had a short career with the Jets, iirc, injuries ended it.
One great Husker name from the late 70s - I.M. Hipp. Hard to get better

Norv may have finally found his stride as a head coach.
If you think about it, his previous HC stints were in Washington and
Oakland. If you give him a mulligan for that year in Oakland, like
people do for Mike Shanahan in the '80s, that leaves Washington. And
really, isn't Dan Snyder looking dumber and dumber every year? San
Diego might really be the first good chance he's gotten. (Admittedly
the news of Shanahan talking with Snyder about the Washington job kind
of pokes a hole in this theory, but still.)
I always liked Norv as a person. When he was in DC, I saw a TV
interview where the reporter asked him if the criticism of his
performance ever got to him. He said that he was raised by a single
mother living on food stamps, and that experience was tougher than
anything that could ever happen to a head coach of an NFL team. Gotta
admire that kind of perspective.
