I scoff at people who cheer the hirings of anyone based on the little to
no information that the public ever gets about that person. These
people cheer because they want hope. They need to believe things will
be better with a new leader -- which is why we got rid of the old
leader. Thus cognitive dissonance sets in where their beliefs override
any facts that may run counter to them.
That said, there is nothing bad about Trestman that sets off any alarms
with me -- probably because most (probably everyone reading this) has no
idea who the guy is before his name hit the news.
The one comment I read that I liked said that most people who know him
consider him to be the smartest guy in the room -- in any room he's in.
Although sometimes the smartest people hold the biggest blind spots,
without knowing anything else, probability wise the Bears are probably
better off hiring the smartest guy they can. Hopefully this works out.

person for the job. I do want to note the following though. Dick
Jauron was a guy who also was always considered the smartest guy
in any room into which he walked.

have listened to Dan on the radio, he always thinks he is the
smartest guy in any room. So that he conceded this to Jauron is
pretty convincing to me that Dick Jauron is a very intelligent
person. What I found wanting in Jauron was his lack of the killer
instinct, that he always played it safe, i.e., playing not to
lose rather than to win.

Exactly. And taking a line from another talk radio icon in Chicago,
Garry Meier, who once described Jauron as (paraphrased) having a face
that looked like he ate bad egg salad after every blown game. I never
associated Jauron with intelligence which is why I think that that was
being discussed before his hiring as BS. But I could be wrong.
