Grading MossToss Vikings 2004 Draft picks.............

seeing improvement over his first season in this newsgroup.... I'm hoping
he's improved as I have tried to tutor him into a more logical analyse style
draft pick methods...... I think he'll do much better and will state my
appreciation that he does take the time to post timely articles about the
Vikings for us..... I'm sure others in this group appreciate that as
well..... so, to the scoreboard:

I agree with MossT on this point..... I'd love to see Big O added to the
Vikings scheme.... it would change the dynamic of the team and vault them
immediately up the board as a real defensive force..... but I'm not as
obsessed about it as MT is cause I really don't think the Vikings will land him
(I'm praying I'm wrong)..............

Odom would be a horrid pick at our 19th pick (I realize Jevalyn has listed #28
in a trade-down scenario).... but Odom would also be a horrid pick at
28....... he lacks elite speed, is a bit lazy, lacks effort, and gives up on
too many plays..... he does not have that "all out" mentality you'd want in
your first pick...... I agree that Carroll would be a great pick for the
Vikings...... problem with him is he's slated at mid to late second
round...... so at 19 (or even 28) he'd be a reach..... I'd be more willing
at 28 to make this reach....... as it's slated, the Vikings might not slot in
for him...... I'd grab him at 50 for damn sure, but the Vikings may consider
that a reach........ and he may go even higher depending on which team is
doing it's homework....... Straight is a straight up bad pick he lacks height
but more importantly has poor leaping skill..... he also doesn't come close
to the blazing speed of Carroll..... mid speeder and poor leaper = pleez
don't take him Tice........ I like MTs receivers Woods/Clayton (Woods would be
a reach at 19) but hope the Vikings steer clear of Wideouts this year.......
Carey might be a decent option if Vilma and DJ are not on the board at
#19....... you can never go wrong adding quality line depth.........

I've commented on Ball in other posts..... short and sweet is he trys hard but
had to overachieve in a mediocre Pac 10..... won't work in the NFL...... Odom
is discussed above........... Big thumbs up to Lehman for MT, solid
pick....... Marques Hill is too slow for DE and too light for DT (tho I'm not
completely opposed to grooming him at DT)..... and Thomas is a horrible
pick..... he's way too light to play either OLB or MLB and too slow to move to
S and worst of all has poor tackling skills...... that's one thing these
Vikings should avoid like the plague.........

same as above but might "throw" in that Ware is a well rounded athlete.... CB
a little WR, returner..... not a good choice for ST (other than as a
returner) because of poor open field tackling skills.... the Vikings should be
able to do better......... (I'm suspecting at this point that MossT is a UCLA
backer).........

Ball: see above and other posts I've described him...... D. Williams lacks
serious bulk (but can add) and would have to move to S an OK pick but not my
first here..... DD would be a good pick, but again I'd rather not take
wideouts this draft as I'll state in my upcoming Wish List....... Vasher is
very versatile but very short and a lightweight for CB probably ends up 4th CB
at best and mostly ST player..... and Siavii is an extreme reach here (should
go mid 4th round) and one of the slower DTs on the board.........

Another terrible pick.... I suspect the Vikings have learned their lessons
about rookie kickers..... plus the guy is inconsistent on kickoff distance and
placement...... tossing away the 4th round pick like this???

This again is a "theoretical" pick from the Patriots........ Kaeding should
only be signed if he drops out of the draft (which he won't) as a free
agent.... Vikings cannot afford to waste picks!!!!!!!! Big Thumbs up for MT
on Adibi.... McCray is one of those guys with great athletic ability (needs
some bulk but has frame to add)..... you can drool over his pure talent....
problem is he consistently underachieves.... doesn't hustle on every down.....
is he worth the gamble??? maybe if no one else is available.........
Parker would be an extreme reach at this pick (tho speedy as hell)...... look
for him late 5th to early 6th round or later.......

Washington: Raw but a good pick here...... Spencer: Tall, extremely skinny,
extremely slow...... Pape: One of the slowest OTs on the board.... needs
serious bulk.... Carstens: decent pick here... lacks a bit of lower body
strenght but could work out.........

McClown: one of the most inaccurate OBs in the draft a huge waste of a pick
here..... Hargrove: slow and a very stupid man..... couldn't even cut it
acedemically and I suspect microbiology was NOT his major.... Allen: hard
worker but mud slow....... Cavka: at 6-6 is an extreme skinny toothpick and
sloppy mud slow........

Which tops off your total lack of research for this project..... thank the
good Lord you have no voice in Vikings personnel........ anyone that's done
even the slightest research on this years draft knows that fullback and center
rate as the lowest grades in the 2004 draft..... in fact this center class is
one of the worst in years..... basically you're telling the Vikings to simply
dump the 7th pick...... I realize the odds of finding a starter here are near
nil..... even finding a contributer here is slim...... but at least pick
someone with athletic measurables to make your practices more competitive and a
possible ST player...... sheeesh.....
