I understand that there is an Arena football team in Texas. Can anyone
tell me where they play. I live in Dallas and haven't heard a thing
about it--i'm not that out of touch either. Please Email me at

Of course you wouldn't hear about it in Dallas -- because it's a Houston
team. :-) It's the Texas Terror, and they play their home games at The
Summit. It's too bad the Texans didn't stick around for this, because that
would have made for a rivalry that would have made Iowa-Minnesota look like
tea time on Sunday afternoon...

The home of the Texas Terror is the Summitt in Houston, Texas!

Arenaball in Texas has been a dissapointment to date. I hear that
the Terror have been a fairly good draw in Houston, a city
notorious for picky fans.

True...had the aforementioned three teams had some people with rudimentary
marketing ability (particularly in San Antonio and Ft. Worth), we could have
had our own in-state league by now.

Picky fans? We had an NFL owner here who made Bill Bidwill look normal, by
comparison...and the Oilers STILL sold 101% of the Dome's capacity for fifteen
straight years. (From 1980 through 1994, no less.) The jury's still out on
Arenaball, obviously, and you can't determine a trend from just two games, but
I'd say drawing 11,500 for the regular season opener is a good sign. Now, Les
Alexander and company need to push their presence in the local media,
especially since Les' other toy (the Rockets) is likely going to be taking
an early summer vacation...

Or the Cavalry! Who's idea was it to give them a schedule with all but
one of their home games on Monday nights? No wonder they only lasted a
season! I can't imagine Tarrant County Convention Center being booked
every weekend of the summer!

I think the Cavalry had a larger attendance at their exhibition in
Oklahoma City (around 8,600) than any of the games in Fort Worth.

Marc - oh well, at least the Coyotes (RHI) are back

I will echo Patrick's sentiments. Houston fans are not PICKY!! We don't even
demand a winner...what we DEMAND is being treated like CUSTOMERS by the
franchise owners...not being treated like SLAVES. We have all this bad press
on ESPN and the like about how bad of fans we are. We STOOD UP to Bud Adams.
We have decided NOT to roll over and cave to their demands.

We love our sports, but we demand that our sports dollars be met with value!!!

Neither can I -- that was one of the classic bonehead moves of AFL scheduling
in the early '90s. Fortunately, the league seems to have learned from their
mistakes in that respect.

With that schedule, it wouldn't surprise me -- of course, the Myriad would be
a better facility for Arenaball than the TCCC, anyway. Still, the TCCC was
more than adequate for the sport -- and I know I wouldn't mind the Cavalry
being resurrected. (Why should _all_ of the Metroplex teams wind up playing
in Dallas County? :-)

>Marc - oh well, at least the Coyotes (RHI) are back

At least you've got RHI...we have to wait until September 21 before we get
_any_ kind of hockey back into The Summit, and an NHL exhibition at that.

True, the AFL has had a lousy run in Texas. Non-NFL football in
general has not had much success. The USFL Gunslingers and WLAF
Riders in San Antonio couldn't draw flies in a stadium that couldn't
sell alcohol (often needed when watching subpar talent!). The USFL
Gamblers in Houston did fairly well during a time when the NFL Oilers
were atrocious. The Gamblers did have a star attraction in QB Jim
Kelly.

Now the Oilers are leaving Houston, the Astros MAY be leaving too, and
the Rockets appear to be descending from the playoff stratosphere.
The sports dollars should be easier to draw now. Ownership is solid:
the parent club is the Houston Rockets. The positives for the team's
future are certainly there.

On the other hand, the Terror has only played 2 games in the Summit so
far and one was a preseason matchup. Who KNOWS what the trend will
be? They also happen to be an atrocious offensive team that couldn't
hold onto the ball if it were coated in tree sap. I'll be at every
game regardless, but man, Jimmy Klingler drops the ball the way his
brother gets sacked in the NFL--every possible moment!

Chris,

By today's standards, that apparently makes us pretty picky.
Otherwise the whole PSL phenomenon (or as Jerry Jones calls them,
"seat bonds") wouldn't exist and cities wouldn't pony up hundreds of
millions for historically marginal franchises.

Hey, if that makes us picky, more power to us. :)

Just a thought from a fellow season ticketholder to the Terror--a
franchise with players to whom I can actually RELATE.

The Center Snap in Arena Football is always risky. Remember, the Center is
basically a OL/DL and not a specialist. Even with taems like Tampa,
Orlando, Albany, whose players have been doing it for a while, the
exchange is sometimes not completed. After he gets enough snaps things
should smooth out (hopefully).
