Muschamp leaving was pretty unexpected. Though you can't really say
surprising. I mean, the Head Coach in Waiting thing was really to
keep the shitty jobs from pulling him away:
Texas DC+HCIW > Tennessee HC
Texas DC+HCIW > Iowa St HC
However, when jobs like Florida come open. Well that is a whole
different can of worms.
Anyway, I wish the guy well, it is a bummer to see him go, but hey the
job is too good to pass up.
I also don't see the sky falling like others, is this a hit? Sure,
but we should be fine.

I can't say I'm surprised. FLA is as big of a job as UT. And after this
season, who knows what's in store here. The uncertainly here is huge.
Will has the chance to get what he wants now, without worrying about
what happens in the post Greg Davis era.
BTW, I blame Davis for this, too. If the offense hadn't sucked so bad,
we would have had a decent season, and would have had a good chance to
keep Will here.
I'm already gagging over the upcoming Brown news conference... "This
is a great opportunity for Coach Muschamp. We wish him the best..."
Ugh. Fuck that. Liar.
My concerns are coaches and player recruiting.
All of the scuttlebutt on OC et. al. was centered on who Muschamp would
want since they would probably be his assistants ultimately. And he
had the connections in the SEC for several of the candidates. Well,
now those guys are going to FLA.
We now have no OC or DC... If Brown promotes Akina, it's like raising
a white flag. We've got a ton of spots to fill now.
How will the '11 and '12 recruiting classes see this? The uncertainly
is not just who will coach, but what will the system be?
I think Brown needs to move fast now. None of this waiting until the
bowls are over. If he knows who he wants, he needs to use the Texas
big bucks and just buy they guys. Now.
If he doesn't know who he wants or if he can't move NOW we are screwed.
I can hear Aggee now... fap, fap, fap, fap....
How can we go from the high of losing JAFPB to the low of losing our
HCIW? I really think 2010 is maybe the worst year for UT sports since
1997. Hearing Randy Shannon for DC. That would be a good hire. His
Miami defense were always top 10. Losing Major, which is rumored might
be the death kneel of our program. He is heavily involved in
recruiting most of our best players like Malcolm Williams. Also
hearing Akina may leave. This is a nightmare. Thanks Urban. I hate
that son of a bitch.
I think there is a lot of stories about friction in the staff that is
about to come out. Chip Brown already had a story about how unhappy
Muschamp was with the accountability of the players on this team. Also
heard various ESPN guys say Muschamp's hire blind sided the Texas
staff. Makes me think Muschamp was ready to leave since his ideas
weren't getting put into action by Mack. What a nightmare. These OC
and DC hires will make or break Mack. He can't afford another 5-7
season.
Michael
Malcom Brown, not Williams. Too many beers in me right now.
I always thought that naming Muschamp head coach in waiting was kind
of a gimmick. My thought was that if Mack retired after a bad season
where the defense was shredded, would Texas really give him that job?
I don't think so. Nothing in the coaching business is guaranteed, you
have to look out for yourself. Now, he got a boatload of money and
that kept him here, but I can't begrudge a guy at all for going after
one of the best coaching jobs in college football.
One thing I will say, if it was going to happen, I'm glad it happened
AFTER Davis. If this had happened before Davis, Mack might have used
that as an excuse to keep him as OC. That would not be acceptable.

That's a good point.
Kind of polishing a turd and all, but it is a bright side of things.
