Subject: Decision Time - no press conference yet
My prediction that there would be a press conference by Tuesday has
come and gone.  In my opinion this is not a good sign.  I was thinking
things would happen quickly because:

1.  It is obvious there is an offensive problem.
2.  According to almost all reports - Davis and Mack are good
friends.  I think all that about Mack would never fire Davis is
probably not true.  The people who say that have never been coaches
and they don't know how it works.  There are tons of head coaches who
have had to fire their friends (including best friends).  It's part of
the business.
3.  That's why I thought it would happen quickly, when you are best
friends, you don't want it hanging over you, you want to get it over
with, for not only yourself, but for your friend.

Now that it has not happened yet, I'm doubtful that Davis is moving on
unless they are trying to create a new position for him or if there is
something else in the works (there is that whole Cleve Bryant thing
behind the scenes).  I hope they are doing this, I think he's a good
guy to have around but let me be clear.  THIS MAN SHOULD NO LONGER
CALL PLAYS and if he still is, I believe there is a failure to face
reality by Mack.  Further, I believe Mack would be putting himself on
the line by keeping him if we stink it up offensively next year.

Of course, there are other problems.  Someone needs to take a look and
figure out what the hell happened to the defense that was supposed to
be the, "best ever since Mack had been at Texas."  UCLA and aggie ran
through that defense like it was soft.

Our offensive line was terrible.  From penalties at crucial times to
missed assignments to just being overpowered by inferior players.

Finally, there is the special teams.  For almost 10 years they had
been a shining star on this team and this year, they weren't even
average.

The more I think about it, the more things I see wrong and I can't
figure out how it ALL went so south so quickly.  From best in the
country to 5-7 with this talent is just unexplainable.

I approve of Mack taking his time, but taking time must be followed up
with action.  I REALLY hope he is not trying to find a way to talk
himself into keeping Davis as his coordinator.
