I long for the days when the college season was 9 games long. Even 10
would have worked for me. Now the slide has begun. Hello, 7th place!

There are many in Tempe who would like this to be Erickson's swan song
(ok, they're on the internet message boards :) They won't be any less
chirpy after this one... UA 28, ASU 10.

> UCLA at USC

There are some in LA who would like this to be Carroll's swan song (yes,
they're on those same message boards :) I'm not one of those, but this
is still homerkookdom... USC 35, ucla 17.

> WASHINGTON STATE at WASHINGTON

Oy. Lots of gnashing on the Paloose. UW 42, WSU 14.

> Notre Dame at Stanford

Ah, the "real" swan song. There's no reason for this pick, but there
was no reason for the Farm to blow the Big Game last week. Beware of
the guys in the striped shirts... ND 28, Stanford 21.

as I was saying, "hello 7th place!"

ARIZONA at ARIZONA STATE
Arizona should win this since Arizona State has underperformed so much
this season and can't be expected to rebound. But it's a rivalry game
so it will probably be close. Arizona 27-24

UCLA at USC
Trojans might take out their frustrations against crosstown
rival....or not. The two most overhyped players in the conference are
Barkley and Locker. I'm going with USC here, 28-16

WASHINGTON STATE at WASHINGTON
This could be a shocker. Washington has been pretty tame since the USC
game. I'm really tempted. Can I pull the trigger and call this upset?
I want to. I can do it. Here goes....gonna do it....uhhhhh....no,
guess I don't have the courage of my convictions. Dogs to win 31-14.

Notre Dame at Stanford
Stanford is simply much better than Notre Dame. Maybe, just maybe, the
emotion of Weis' last game will help the Domers. It could make it a 17
point game instead of a 37 point win. Stanford, 45-28.

I'm glad we do this week by week. The CFPOOL was asking for the winner
of the Oregon-Oregon State game this week. I thought it was a mistake
until I read their home page carefully. I wasn't very prepared for
that, but since it was just pickiing the winner, I went with Oregon
for now.

First, let me say that I've gone to great effort (have you ever dyed
burlap bags Yale Blue and California Gold?) and expense (I must have
gone through 2 whole boxes of staples) to reupholster the back of the
"limo." In future, if you must bring livestock, at least get those
little booties to cover the hooves or talons, or whatever...

The obvious picks are UA, USC, UW, JrU. The question is: who will be
upset?
The answer is: the losers. Favorites roll this week.
UA 30, ASU 17
USC 31, UC II 13
UW 27, WSU 24

This rivalry game is always close and has produced many upsets. The score
should go back and forth with momentum swings between the Sun Devils very
good D versus the Wildcats very good O. UA will score late to pull out the
win for a close margin of victory.

> UCLA at USC

USC - 31, UCLA - 17

Three losses? Big deal. These guys are still the Trojans. With the #1 WR
and FB back from injuries and coming off a bye week, USC's offense will be
more effective. The Bruins will probably get their pick six to keep it
close. But UCLA doesn't have enough offense to win even in a fairly low
scoring game. Fight On!

> WASHINGTON STATE at WASHINGTON

UW - 42, WSU - 10

The Huskies exact revenge for last year's late game loss in Pullman. Locker
will run and pass at will for big yards. The Cougars have next to no
defense which is as they say "a problem." UW rolls to an easy win and both
teams start to think seriously about next year.

> Notre Dame at Stanford

Stanford - 37, Notre Dame - 27

Why did the Domers AD cancel Charlie's west coast post-game recruiting trip?
Why did Clausen get sucker punched by a fan? This team is in disarray. The
Trees have too much offense, too much desire, and too much confidence for
the Irish to overcome. Buh-bye Charlie and Jimmy.

Lost in cyberspace until this message appeared 8 hours after the fact. I
