What do you guys think?

First off, I would think Lenny wouldn't start Childs and Alvin
together in the regular season. They're our only 2 PGs, and I think
it's in the team's best interest to rotate them rather than have them
play on the court together regularly.
As for MoPete or JYD, I would hope Lenny could adjust the lineup to
match up with whatever team he faces, but for some reason I think
he'll stick with MoPete in there.
Although I wouldn't be greatly opposed to JYD being stuck at the 3.
However, I think him and Keon are much better suited coming off the
bench. Especially at home, the guys get the crowd going, and both can
have immediate impacts.
I think if MoPete is really struggling, especially defensively, we
could see Jerome step in to the big time shortly into the season.
and then sub in JYD for MoPete quite early on...

I agree, especially when the opposing SF is big and physical (even Ron
Artest looked like MJ against MoPete last year). I also seem to recall
from the news conference announcing JYD's signing that his projected
role was to be an ignitor off the bench.
Since you introduced the issue of rotation schemes, does anyone see
Lenny consistently going with much more than than an 8-9 man rotation
(Alvin, VC, MoPete, AD, Hakeem + JYD, Keon, Childs and Curry) in
non-blowout games? Will players like Murray, Bradley, Montross or
Skinner see any meaningful minutes? Personally, I hope not because once
you go past the first 9 (with the possible exception of Bradley), there
is a fairly huge dropoff in talent...
Peter
I've said it before: small ball! Childs, AW, VC. (I think JYD can play the 3, but not to start; only on really good matchups.)
For those that think we'll wear out the two PGs, think about this: how often will both Child _and_ Williams sit? Answer: maybe 5
minutes per game. VC or <shudder> MoPete can handle the ball for a limited amount of time.
Remember the playoffs? We had our best success playing Vince at SF! Let's run with it!
This does not deflect from the fact that we need someone (is Shammond still available?) that can be 3rd string PG in case AW or CC
get hurt.
PG: Alvin
SG: Carter
SF: JYD

I think that at training camp, we'll see a similar line-up to what we saw
once Williamson was benched .. i.e. Alvin, Carter and Mo Pete at 1, 2 and 3
respectively. Its obvious who the starting C and PF are and will be for most
of the season.
However, I get this feeling that if Mo Pete doesn't shine during training
camp (it's his sophomore year), he'll end up on the bench, replaced by
Carter. Childs will start at PG and Alvin at SG.
Ideally, I would like to see Mo Pete moved to the starting SG spot,
depending on matchups. Obviously he won't be able to match up with guys like
T-mac, Kobe, Jordan and other superstar SG's .. That's when Carter starts at
SG .. But, he doesn't matchup well with bigger SF's which is when Carter
should start at SF .. we've all seen him rotate in and out of the SF slot
with ease. But, I don't know if Wilkens is the kind of coach that would
experiment too much .. and I don't think that its a great idea to switch
players around that much anyways.
all that said, I think that Mo Pete needs a lot of work before he's starting
material. I'd prefer it if they traded for a better option at SF .. they
just don't have anyone good enough at this point in time. anyone available
out there? I can't think of anyone.

I think you mis-read, he said 5 minutes that *both* of them would be out
of the game (as in at the same time)... When only one of the two is on,
the other rests...
Charles
That's only 45 minutes per and you know for a certainty that Alvin will
spend some time at SG. I agree that Childs minutes will (and should) be
limited. He is getting old and isn't starting PG material. I expect that
lenny will not have a set line-up. Sometimes going with Alvin and Childs
together in the backcourt and Vince at SF will make sense. Sometimes it
won't.

As I've mentioned before Jimmy Jackson is available and probably could be had
cheap. He seems like a decent enough bench player to me and couldn't hurt that
much with a one-year, low $$ contract. However, I am aware of the 15
guaranteed contracts already on the roster, eliminating this possibility,
barring a sign-and-trade with Cleveland (I believe that's where he played last
season).

How well would play with Vince? Don't they have similar games? I guess JJ is more
of a slasher than VC, and has some post moves. Would he accept coming off the
bench playing less minutes than he's used to? (Although I'd be happy to give him
some of MoPete's.)
Sign and trade sounds good to me. Package some big men and send them to
Cleveland, where they might be getting a little frantic about their frontcourt.
