Mutumbo going to Phoenix?

Anyone in Phoenix heard news of Mutumbo goin from here in Denver to Phoenix?
Local reports have Mutumbo going to Phoenix for Sam Cassel and Robber Horray
after the Suns trade Sir Charles for them to Houston.
Anyone down there in the desert hear anything about this??
What do you all thing about getting Mutumbo? I personally say good riddance!

Now THAT 3-way deal is intriguing! Is this something that was really
reported? The Suns would finally have some shot blocking that they
need. However, Mutombo is a free agent, and I think that he can sign
wherever he wants. He can't be traded until he is signed.

First of all, you have to learn to recognize outlandish speculation
disguised as "reports."
Secondly, we would love to get Mutombo. We are desperate for a
center.
Mutombo's currently a free agent, and will demand such a high
salary that Phoenix will have to give up a lot more than Barkley
to get him. Maybe Barkley and KJ.
Just to fit salary-wise, it would have to be something like:
Houston gets KJ and Barkley. (With Drexler and Hakeem, this is
a definite championship team.)
Phoenix gets Mutombo, and Houston's 1998 first-round pick (their
1996 pick has already been traded).
Denver gets Horry and Cassell.
Definitely a great trade from the Houston perspective.
Phoenix finally gets the center they've desperately wanted for
so long, but are now somewhat hamstrung cap-wise. Their only
hope for improvement is now the draft. But a starting lineup
of Perry, Person, Finley, Manning and Mutombo has potential,
with Green, Tisdale, and Williams contributing off the bench.
The Suns would have to use their #15-overall pick on a backup
point guard.
Denver-- I dunno. I didn't get the Indiana trade, either.

the radio. here is what I have heard today. Barkley will go to houston
for Horry and Cassell, Then they go to Denver and Matumbo comes here.
This cannot happen until monday when the NBA salary cap goes up so Phoenix
can fit Mutumbo in. Aslo a intresting thing that the Paper reported on
this is that David Falk represents both Charles Barkley and Mutumbo. So
he is really running this trade. But on the Radio they said it is going
to happen Monday (barring a lock out.)

since it does not help them (even though i want mutombo out, and ilove
cassell and horry)...if they do this then they got two starting pg -
jackson and cassell and two sf - ellis and horry, they dont need
cassell and horry...but if they could use them i would hope denver did
this deal in a heartbeat...

I also read on ESPNet that Phoenix would be sending a second player to
Houston, but that it would NOT be Perry. Who could this be? All I
can say is that it better not be Finley or KJ! If that were the case,
I think the price would be too high! Hopefully it will be Person, and
then we can just resign Majerle. Also without Charles, Tisdale will
get a lot more playing time and we will need him in the post.

Mutumbo has been a dissappointment since his first 1/2 season, he will
never be a franchise player and he whines his way into respect. Also,
Denver has no point guards now, Chris Jackson and Jalen Rose traded
away (why?)! Ricky Pierce will not be able to start at point guard,
Mark neither Jackson nor Stith can play the point, Cassell would fit
there well. Horry's position would be less secure due to the
abundance of forwards in Denver, but Reggie Williams is gone too, thus
the starting 3 spot is also open. I wondered about the Denver trades,
I think this may have been the plan all along.

Denver has no choice but to do this, because if they don't, they will
lose Mutombo to free agency, and get nothing for him. At least this
way, they will get two quality players in return for the big man. If
they are now overloaded in any particular position, they can do some
more tinkering later. In my opinion, Denver is getting a great deal,
instead of NOTHING, they are getting SOMETHING, and Cassell and Horry
are no slouches, either, they are solid, quality players.

Mutombo's salary will be for about $6.5M in the first year, according to
reports (and increasing at 20%/year for six years, reaching a staggering
$16.2 in 2001-02). According to the 15% rule, we need to trade at least
$5.5M worth of players in order to make the trade. Barkley's contract is
about $4.5M, so we need to throw in another player making at least $1M.
My guess is Joe Kleine, who makes about that. If it were anybody who
made substantially more (like A. C. Green, who makes over $6M), Mutmobo's
contract would not be so heavily back-loaded.

I've heard it speculated that it'll be Mario Bennett. Let's hope so.

I don't subscribe to the articles on ESPNet, but I saw the headline
about Detroit offering Mutombo a $50 million contract. Can someone
fill me in on the details? Any word on whether or not Mutombo may
bite?

Under the new CBA, Mutombo would have to play for Phoenix for three years
before the "Larry Bird clause" kicked in. (The "Early Bird clause" would
kick in after two years, but probably be insufficient for Mutombo.)
Mutombo playing for league minimum for three years? Dikembe Mutombo,
whose agent is David Falk? I don't see it happening. Course, it sure
would be amusing to see Mutombo play for the league minimum for three
years, and then sign a one year, $50-million extension. What would the
ramifications of that be on the next CBA? (Undoubtedly, the league would
sue to stop the deal; they'd probably lose, but can Mutombo afford to take
that risk?)

From what I've heard, it's going to be a matter of where he wants to play. The $$
offered by Detroit is going to be hard to turn down, though.

Very unlikely. Phoenix is $9-13 Million over the cap. Mutumbo at
