and relish the _fact_ that I am one of the few, or so it seems, real Laker
fan around here. You all can go root for the Clips if you want. Plenty of
room on that bus. Hell, why not just go out and enjoy the great weather
we'll be having in the Los Angeles area tomorrow? After all, why would you
want to sit and watch your, supposed, favorite team either get beat, or at
the least, not perform up to whatever lofty expectations you've set for it?
You wont be happy either way so why torture yourselves?
Go on, enjoy your day. Come on back to the newsgroup and some of us will
fill you in on what happened.

whoa... slow your roll... i think people have got their feelings hurt because
we havent went through the west like a buzz saw... the west is still tougher
than the east and rick adleman is a pretty good coach... phil might not be
as good a coach as adleman is and has always benefited from having better
players...
adleman also knows phils tendencies from coaching against him for years...
who better than to exploit phil's ridiculous line-up substitutions... im guessing
the next series will go far easier than this one did...

All of here are Laker fans. (Why else put up with all the abuse?<g>)
But like anything we love, we get infuriated when the loved one is
self-destructive, lazy, wasting life & opportunities, arrogant etc. I
think the disgust over this series -- labeled by Hollinger already as
one of the most shocking second-round series in league history,
considering the gap in talent and experience -- is not in any way
directed toward "The Lakers", but toward individual sucky players and
especially Jackson & Co. Our love includes the glorious past and
hopefully glorious future, and is not just focused on now. It has
nothing to do with being a fair-weather fan.
However. As I wrote here during the 2008 playoffs, for someone like
myself who was lucky enough to cut my NBA teeth on Coop, Cap, Magic,
James, Mychal Thompson, Rambis, Nixon, Scott, AC, and even Mike Smrek,
comparatively the Kobe-led version just doesn't make it, in an
emotional sense. In watching Game 6 of Smelts-Magic last Thursday
night, I was screaming my head off for Orlando. And I realized I
haven't rooted like that for this team since 2004. Maybe because my
daughter Saya was born in 2004, and compared to her, well who cares?
But I think it's something else too. The Riles teams were men. In all
those years, you can count on one hand the number of public
personality riffs that team had. Kobe's personality dominates the team
and the atmosphere surrounding it, and I just don't like the guy.
(Maybe Spike Lee will change my mind this weekend.) He is part-prick,
part-priss, and I cannot imagine in a million years someone with his
act ever fitting in with the Riles Lakers.
Yes, our society has degraded quite a bit over the past 20 years, in
terms of narcissism and fellow-feeling. Yet the Rockets have that men-
in-a-foxhole feeling. (And boy do the Cavs have it!) Even with all the
pathetic crap between Shaq and young Kobe, that team had it somewhat
as well. Not this club.

The average age of our team is like 17. They still have a *lot* of
maturing to do.
The 80's Lakers didn't mature until 87... up until then they were a
roller coaster ride in the playoffs, too.
This team will still beat the Rockets, will still beat the Nuggs, and
will probably beat Cleveland or Boston, too.
The next 5 years are going to be a great ride, just buckle up and
enjoy it (that's not to say that our young kids didn't frustrate the
crap out of me Thurday night).

Either PJ is completely incompetent as an in-game strategist, or he is
holding off on making adjustments (no need to panic as long as he
holds the edge, and it prevents future opponents from gaining scouting
info).
I'm going to give PJ the benefit of the doubt and assume he just
doesn't want to tip his hand too soon. There's no reason to make big
adjustments as long as the Lakers hold the advantage in the series...
and they've held the advantage since game 3. Making coaching
adjustments is like a game of chess, and PJ has more chess pieces and
more potential moves than any other coach in this tournament... he's
just chosen not to make many moves yet (other than doubling Scola
after Gasol made him look like the next coming of Kevin McHale).
If the Lakers will improve their shot selection and boxing out then
they'll win this thing... I think it is that simple.

you mean like the cavs? they've got 4 front court guys in their 30's
who are probably benefiting from the layoff big time - especially
wallace who's still not fully recovered from that broken leg.
and let's face it, though younger, kobe's been in the league longer
than a very old looking tim duncan. kobe & especially fisher could use
a week off.
