... Jack Haley and his disappearance from Lakers Live, and I've agreed with
most in feeling that a lot was lost when he was no longer a part of it.
So I play cards somewhat seriously, and Jack is a regular at the same room I
play at. We've played together a few times before, but I never engaged him in
conversation before tonight (maybe because he sat right next to me, and I had
on one of my Lakers caps). We got to chatting, and I just flat-out asked him
why he's not on Lakers Live anymore. He said that he was given no reason, and
they simply said they were going with someone else at the end of last season.
Then I asked him about the rumor posted here that he got a college coaching
position, which he quickly said was false.
I also told him that the show is pretty dull now without him, and he sounded
genuinely grateful for that comment. He also said that he really misses it,
and I got the feeling that he really loved that job. In person he's just like
how he was on the show, a very friendly and talkative guy. And a pretty sharp
card player too.

now that I have seen Norm Nixon and love his game of horse with the
players... y'all were right...he's dull...kinda missing the comet...not in a
Hearn sort of way...but he did add to the broadcast
Haley's OK, better than what they've got now but the Lakers deserve better
IMO. Worthy and Alan "Please Say My Last Name Very Carefully" Massengale do
a much better job I think. I'm not a fan of KCAL's production, but at least
the commentary is better.
I'll admit though I've probably watched 10 min *total* this season of both
channels' pre- and post-game shows as well as halftime. Most of the time
it's the most rudimentary stuff, there just isn't a ton of insight.

Just as long as they have a likable personality. I like guys like Bill
McDonald from Fox who does Laker/Bruins - seems like a really nice guy.
Haley was OK, just a bit rah-rah for me most of the time - I liked has
laying in wait interviews with Kobe under the stands coming into the
building. Massengale's fine to.

He's a bit too shmoozy for my liking. I don't mind it much, though.
You mean a politically correct Uncle Tom ?
Thanks for the update. I would take Haley in his prime over Mihm btw...
Also Norm Nixon and Emmit Smith are currently the 2 worst analysts out
there.
I'd take a *completely healthy* Mihm any day over Haley in his prime.

How they thought the issuer of this bit of genius could be a good TV
