I didn't question it while I saw him pitching. If anything I questioned how his coaches could advocate him throwing sliders at that young an age. I know more than one 11-12 year-old kids who are 5'6" to 5'9" and weigh as much as Almonte. In a previous post I mentioned that my 2000 all-star team was dominated by a 6'1" 12 yr-old. I didn't question it then because I believe (and still do) that little league baseball does an outstanding job of verifying the eligibity of each player. As a manger I went through the process and was satisfied with the stringent standards. Besides a birth certificate, each players residence must also be validated with a utilty bill that contains the name of at least one parent. If the child is living with a gurdian, the guardian must present legal proof of custody.

Aside from the dangers of throwing sliders at that age, didn't you find it the least bit odd that he was able to throw that hard? In all your years of involvement with LL, have you ever seen a kid throw that hard?

Yes, I think. The 12 year old that struck out 15 of my hitters (only allowed one hit - a blooper over second base) last year threw at least 70 mph. Unfortunatetly, I did not have have access to a pitching machine. The local batting cages will not crank their 46 foot cages higher than 60 mph for insurance reasons. Another league cranked their pitching machine to 75 mph for batting practice the day before they faced him. They knocked out 3 homers in the first two innings and the kid was relieved during the 3rd inning. That pitcher (from Bellflower btw) only threw fastballs though. I did not see Almonte in person, so I can't say for sure that he was significantly faster than any other 12 year old I've seen. It wasn't so much his speed, but more the command of multiple pitches that amazed me about him. His breaking stuff was awesome. Never seen anything like it in little league before. Most kids at that age hang their breaking balls. Almonte didn't. I just assumed he was an American born kid with an American BC until the story broke.

"Never seen anything like it in little league before."
I think this is why there was an investigation to begin with.

And what causes out of control egos? Money and power. It takes a principled (there's that word again) man to react differently. Unfortunately, even those who think they are principled aren't really. A principled man does not just look out for themselves and their clan. They look out for the good of all...they are progressive people, not ones who use race or stereotypes to make points.

They don't call you just clueless for nothing. I've seen wealthy men use their money to buy influence in other leagues. But they did it for the glory.

You da man JC. But you're still clueless. I'm not surprised you missed the point. Just a little advice, though. If you should ever pass on those tainted genes of yours, and if you happen to have a son, If you live in a diverse area and sign your son up in a league that is completely dominated by people of a singular nationality, find another league. Your son will not be treated fairly.

Not sure. How did you become such a fucking moron? Besides the obvious dyslexia, did your mom drop you too?

The idea of you calling me a moron or clueless carries little weight given your utter stupidity about most subjects known to man. You're easily one of the most narrow-minded people I've ever seen on Usenet.

Uh, JC... just about everyone in here has called you a moron at least once.

Like I said before JC, the league which I ran sent all-star teams to tournaments that represented my community ethnically and economically. I didn't need to pull a quota on my coaches. You see, if you drive to the kids home and get them to practice, they all have an equal chance to become ballplayers. So regardless of what you think of me, I've developed baseball and basketball players of multi-ethnicities. So go fuck yourself JC.
