Give him time.
He was railroaded into office against his will and inherited a big mess that
was 100% created by republicans.

There is a large swarm of Lefties, most of whom who are to
the left of moderate Liberals, many of whom are to the left
of classic Liberals, some of whom are to the left of
Progressives, and a few of whom are to the left of Radicals,
who will give Barack zero slack, and I mean none; he's not
liberal enough for any of them. Shucks, I'm a radical
Populist, a New Deal Liberal, a Welfare State Socialist, and
a 1912 "Bull Moose" Progressive, and I'm not liberal enough
for some of them and not nearly liberal enough for any of
the hard core socialist Radicals or communist Utopian
Fruitcakes.

As far as who is responsible for the big mess, leaving
aside faux Democrats such as Republicrats, Conservacrats,
Blue Dogs, and Neoliberals, there were still lots of Liberal
Democrats with neither enough intestinal fortitude nor
sufficient moral integrity to stand up to the Bush/Cheney
dictatorship or its enablers in the Congress, and thus were
themselves enablers. They didn't have the guts to oppose
Bush, and now they don't have the guts to support Barack.

The problem with my fellow Lefties who won't back Barack,
especially the ones who were so giddy over him when his star
was rising, is that they don't seem to realize that he is
all we have right now and if they bring him down the
Republicans will rise again. The Conservatives are just
waiting for enough Democrats to eat their own to give the
Republican Party a winning edge again. It has happened
before in my lifetime and ushered in the past 28 years of
rule by Republican Reactionaries and Neoliberal Democrats
beginning with Ronald Fucking Reagan, the most overrated
President in history, and ending with George Bush the
Lesser, the worst President in history.

Johnny,

This man was elected with more good will at his back than anyone since
JFK. He was the first Democrat elected with more than 50% of the vote
since 1964(!). Unlike newly-elected Presidents such as Reagan, both
Bushes, and Nixon, he had strong majorities in both Houses. He was
also riding a wave of revulsion and hatred toward the outgoing
incumbents unprecedented in modern US history. He came in surrounded
by all the opportunities provided by the greatest financial collapse
in history. And he was blessed with communication skills maybe
unmatched among Presidents.

A year later, what do we have John? Name one truly progressive policy
this guy has embraced. Name one progressive appointment made into a
position of power. I know you're a classic working-class Leftist. (The
only kind to be. Screw the Olbermanns.) NO ONE including FDR had the
transformative opportunity Obama had. And not only has he fucked it up
in a truly historic way, but the country is now IMHO further to the
right than it was last November.

HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?

It's possible because the guts Americans appreciate in all fields has
been sorely lacking. Let's just take Foreign Policy:

Insanely expanded the Afghan war into Pakistan

Promotes well-known Death Squad Leader Stanley McChrystal to head that
war. (And who has been stabbing Obama in the back.)

Continued the Iraq Occupation with no sign at all of real withdrawal.

Not only did not end the Blackwatering of US operations overseas, but
has actually expanded reliance on mercenaries and private armies.

Increased the Pentagon budget to a historic high, beyond even Repub
requests.

Refused to rule out approval for an Israel attack on Iran.

Amped up US threats against Iran.

Refused to in any serious way to come out against Israel's brutal and
criminal occupation of Palestine.

Refused to move in any significant way against a right-wing coup
against a democratically elected president in Honduras.

Repackaged and reproduced essential core aspects of Bush's
"counterterrorist" assault on basic human and civil rights at home and
abroad.

Refused all criminal investigations and/or trials concerned the issue
of TORTURE. (Remember that? Rahm & Co. counted on the "left" to gaze
at some other moonstone and forget about it. And they were right.)

I could go on but time is short and the list is depressing.

But your point is a good one. If this jerk fails, what do we have
left? We'll have a re-takeover of Congress by forces that will make
Newt Gingrich seem like George McGovern and -- if not in 2012, then in
2016 -- a worse version of Bush/Cheney.

And that inevitability is completely the fault of BARACK OBAMA. Not
the so-called "left", which has as much power over these things as
does the DAR. Obama came in promising to be the Anti-Reagan. The man
who would finally break the back of the endless stupidities and lies
born with Reagan about the evil of Big Gubment, and how always always
always always private power is somehow more competent, honest,
efficient, and true to nature than communal public organizations. That
is why these insects are able to box him in. Since day one, he has
been playing on their terms. Again, something FDR, Reagan, Kennedy,
Lincoln etc.rarely did.

We needed a stud, and we got a pussy.

Tomorrow: domestic and economic policy. :-)

I know where you are coming from, Comrade. We are on the
same side, and I don't have a serious quarrel with any of
the above and only minor nit picks with just a few too minor
and too few to mention. I'm as disappointed as anyone,
because I took a year out my very pleasant life to help him
get elected. And I was almost immediately dismayed when I
saw him surrounding himself with fucking Neoliberal
Clintonistas and incompetent nincompoops like Larry Summers,
who was so fucked up as the President of Harvard that the
faculty revolted en masse and forced him to resign. I think
a lot of my frustration with my fellow Lefties jumping on
Barack may be a product of what I saw the Liberals do to
themselves and the country in both 1968 and 1980 and my
frustration with them and him transposed to anyone I can get
after.

I'm glad you see that although Barack is the lesser of two
evils, he is way safer than the most dangerous set of evil
motherfuckers that ever called themselves Americans. My
fear is that if we do anything to help throw Barack to the
wolves like we did LBJ and Carter until we kill off the last
fucking Neanderthal, they will eat us next, like they did
before.

I'm just not ready to turn on him yet. I'd like to put 70
Democrats in the Senate in '10 and then see what he is
really made of. But Barack's disappointed Liberals,
never-liked-him braggadocios, and Fruitcake Neo-Marxist and
Neo-Maoist Utopian Dreamers could actually give the
legislative power back to the Neocons and culture warriors.

We have to stick together no matter what happens. I
personally witnessed what happens when Liberals turn on each
other, twice, and the Neoliberal seizure of the Democratic
Party, Reagan, and Bush/Cheney dictatorship were the
consequences. If you think it can't get any worse than
that, trust me, I have studied a lot of history, and it can
get much worse.
