have drafted Marion but we traded the pick for Potopenko. Just another in a
long line of screw ups. Now Danny might want to trade for Marion? Well I
love Marion, but he will be 30 years old this year. He will be a free agent
next summer. He is only 6'7" which is fine if you have the complementary
pieces which we don't.
How can we hope to challenge when our tallest decent player is only 6'10".
We are just grasping at straws.
I think the best thing to do would be to would be to draft Wright, Brewer or
Yi. Then trade back into the first round as we did last year and take the
best big man on the board.
I think Phoenix would do it for our 32nd pick and cash and or a minimum
salary player.
I would also offer Pierce to LA for Odom and Bynum.
One thing I would not do is trade the number 5 pick (this year) for an aging
player who will be a free agent next summer.

To me, Pierce does everything Marion does. He's a redundant
piece. That doesn't mean he's not worth going after, but it does
mean get somebody else instead.

think he's young enough to sacrifice the #5 pick. i think people are
really underrating the pick. Anyone from the NC kid to the Florida
kids, to Conley, all have tremendous value. Marion is a talent, maybe
the c's can use him in a 3 way. I know folks think Garnett is not a
possibility but besides memphis trading Gasol and #4, what team has more
young players along with # 5 pick in the deep draft. If Garnett wants
out, Minny has to trade him or be stuck with a headache. And Ainge and
Kevin are good buddies. #5, Minny's first rounder Boston has, another
future 1, and Gerald Green and Gomes is not a bad package. Green could
be an allstar in the mode of Gervin one day. He's only a Sophomore in a
system where he would have been red shirted like the old days. And
Gomes is a nice player. With the depth of the draft #5 could yield a
the NC kid, and if not they could always trade up to 3 using a future #1
included by Boston.
Boston has some cards to play, and if Danny is patient he can build a
team with Rondo, Pierce, Jefferson, and another all star big guy.
Garnett, Rondo, and pierce could challenge in the East if Rondo turns
out to be the star we are all hoping he can be. Even if Brandon Right
from NC comes here, some liken him to Bosh. All is not lost. Heck I
guess even Marion would make this team a playoff contender if he stays
healthy. Marion, jefferson, and Pierce is a fearsome front line, and
Rondo teamed with Tony allen (the tony allen who was on fire before the
injury) is a decent defensive back court with expressiveness. West is
the perfect combo guard off the bench, and Wally can give them a solid
25 minutes off the bench, and be really healthy, not just a gimp, the
C's could win 45 games with Marion, 52 with Garnett, 50 with Jermaine
O'Neal or Gasol. Telfair seems like a lost cause but maybe this gun
thing could turn around his lifestyle, and he will be the better for it.
Perk is the X factor as he either will be a nice defensive force with
6 fouls to use like a Diop, or he will fall off the face of the earth
and disappear. Scabs is all done. Finally the Ray kid can shoot, and
might be an emerging role player.
Danny has a chance to build a team which is fun to watch. Probably No
titles, but knock on wood, with Randy Moss streaking down the sideline
with the best player in the game gunning to him, and Shilling in a
contract year, Boston has to be the logical favorite in Football and
baseball. You can't win every title, nut the c's could at least be upper
echelon, and with the right breaks who knows.
Garnett is the one guy who could maybe win a tile for us if things
break right. The east is weak, Detroit is old, MIami is old, and
Cleveland has the best player on earth but little else.
Meanwhile Portland is on the verge with Oden and a ton of other talent.
Maybe Boston could steal Randolph for 50 cents on the dollar, and add
Marion, but the stupid cap most likely would prevent that. As for Oden,
the C's were right to try and get him. The guys has been nothing short
of sensational in the workouts.
Finally, Wally Z has to get his head on straight and work to be healthy.
He could be a wonderful bench player. It comes down to the C's
ability to land the veteran star big guy. They have the cards, now
Ainge needs to be creative, and most of all these owners need to throw
some big money around. We will know if trust fund Wyc is serious about
winning by July 1st. Cause it will take a lot of moola to get the likes
of the Big Ticket. And if Phoenix was able to get Barkley in 93 from
Philly why do not the C's have a chance at landing an older super who is
sick of his team. Garnett fits that mold.
'Cago might be have more to offer, as does Portland, but Minny would
most likely not deal with their own conference. Chicago will probably
get him. Whatever, if Boston needs to include Jefferson in the deal, I
say go for it. Both Pierce and KG have 4 good/great years left, and
then the C's can rebuild again. Pierce and KG could win a title if
Rondo is the player we all hope for. Yes losing Jefferson should be
avoided at all costs but sometimes you have to give to get. but imagine
if they found a way to keep Jefferson. And don't forget about Jernaine
O'Neal, he could make this team contend if he's healthy, and would be a
nice consolation if/when they lose Garnett to 'Cago. Minnesota is in a
bad situation, and KG wants out. They have no one good besides him, no
young talent, and some of their picks have been traded away. Only by
trading Garnett can they get younger, and put themselves in the position
to get under the cap. The C's have picks galore, young studs while raw
are big on upside, and even a nice expiring big contract in Theo. Ainge
has the tools, if he blows it, or Wyc refuses to pay what he needs to
for a player to be attracted to Boston, the C's will play to an empty
arena. Garnett already has millions, so he might be willing restructure
some money to help Boston sign other guys. The C's with a healthy Paul
Pierce are a perfect fit for Garnett. Rondo is a perfect 1 for KG's
game, and Boston has plenty of sharp shooters to allow The Big Ticket to
roam inside, instead of the 12 to 15 foot range where he has drifted to
lately.

The key is if players like Doc, and are willing to come to Boston.
Pierce is a popular guy, and Doc being player friendly should make the
C's desirable to veterans. Granted Doc as a coach has not been what we
hoped for.

He does everything worse than Marion does it. Marion vs. Pierce is a no
contest in my book. I'd trade them straight up in a heartbeat. But we're
talking about trading a top 5 pick for him. I think if you sign him to a
long term deal, you've just got a player who can totall change this
franchise for the better. The odds of whoever we get at #5 ever being near
his quality are less than slim. He has an amazing game and while I
typically prefer to use the draft and take your best shot a stud, Marion
already is a stud. Why pass on him? If Pierce is truly redundant, get rid
of him.

The key is not to give up a major player. They should parlay that #5 into a
Pierce level player who serves their needs up front--using Ratliff as the
salary balancer.They have the pieces to do such a deal. I can't believe
Garnett is available.
