Iverson is going to be a Celtic. Supposedly this is a done deal but there are some factors in the way at the moment.

The Celtics are going to trade Telfair but cannot move him within 60
days due to the draft. A player cannont be traded within 60 days if
traded on draft night.
Allen Iverson is coming to boston and this is the deal in principal

Celtics Aquire- Allen Iverson, Future 2nd Round Pick, Cash
Considerations.

Phildelphia Aquires- Wally Z, Tony Allen, Sebastian Telfair, Cash
Considerations.

Sources- Sports Huddle 96.9 FM 7-10 PM, Stephen A. Smith.

If this is the deal...I am at least happy that none of the major young
guys are gone. However, I am not sure if I can handle Iverson coming
to the Celtics.

Ugh...

Where did you find it on boston.com, in the forums where 10 year olds make
up rumors?

In any case, let's use reverse psychology and be on the fence about whether
we want to give up Wally like that, in case Philly reads these boards and
has second thoughts.

Bad idea. Of course, for those who want to get rid of Doc,
it's great. He'll be the scapegoat for Iverson's idiotic
selfish behavior. PP and AI will rack up lots of points,
but they won't translate into wins. And AI's attitude may
very well rub off on PP. Two guys with excellent basketball
skills, but niether one shows any sign of growing up enough
to become a winner. So much for rebuilding.

Agreed. The only good thing is we don't give up any of the young talent.
Allen we won't miss... at least I won't. Nor Telfair, imo. So we get
IIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiverson. That squashes playing time and opportunities for
the rest of the team. It creates an offense dependent upon a 33 year old
ball hog. It creates a "win now" mentality that may well eventually result
in the trading of the very players we are happy we have not *yet* traded
away. It puts us in the playoffs but unable to win a championship. Woop de
doo.

I don't see Americans embracing the Celtics with PP and AI even if they
go to the finals. Pierce isn't popular or mature and AI is a con artist
on the floor, not well spoken and pretentious in style. I'm not sure
the two belong together(unless at the club).

That's BS. FA signings (from another team) had a 60-day waiting period
at one point in time, perhaps they still do. But there is no
restriction on trading players acquired on draft night.

The timing of the post is what kills the credibility of this rumor??

He has a lot of miles on him, but chronologically he's a 31 year old ball
hog who was eighth in the league in assists per game last year.

Huh, 31 he is. A bit better. 7 assists per game for a guy who handles the
ball as much as he does throughout 43 minutes of play with much of it as the
PG or at least de facto PG is average to below average. He took 25 shots
per game. 25. That's 10-12 too many. AI + PP is not a recipe for
greatness.

Smith is usually a good source, but that trade won't fly in Philly.
I heard the opposite tonite--King said he expects Iverson to play in Philly
this s eason.

Considering that it cited a sports show that didn't begin for half a day
after it was made: yes.

Anyway, I heard that Paul McCartney was dead. John Lennon said so on

Yea - King never would have lived it down...it'd have to be Telfair,
Jefferson, (insert Green, West, Allen) plus Ratliff and a draft pick

It would figure that a report like that wouldn't be sitting around for
24 hours without a single news report about it. I'd like to think that
Boston isn't the po'duck town that Indianapolis is. A television report
there about Al Harrington being traded for the exemption and a pick was
gobbled up by two newspapers, ESPN and a multitude of other media the
next day.

In any case, this is exactly what anyone with a limited critical
thinking skillset should have understood: bogus. Unless you want to take
about 10,000 reports to the contrary and moot them with "Sports Huddle
96.9 FM 7-10 PM".
