overspending on Ivan Rodriquez. Pathetic. What did they overspend?
$500k-$750k for 2 years? With Keanrs and Young gone, that money is fine.
Shenin of course would be first in line to complain if the owners
were not spending. You can't have it both ways, Dave.

I've been convinced that this was probably the best of a bad situation,
all things considered. Jeez, they spent $5mil for one year of LoDuca...
Pudge and Flores are both Boras clients, as well as the kid catcher they're
going to draft, so it probably goes beyond the numbers.

WAPO reported that 2 teams offer Pudge over 3 million for 1 year, but
wouldn't extend to 2 years. If that is the case, we hardly overpaid at
all. This will be Flores make or break season since Norris is a year
away. Spring training with Pudge tutoring Norris? That's worth 6
million of Paw Lerner's bucks. I'll even avoid complaining about
running out of napkins on opening day if it'll help.

Yes, it's still a gamble on Flores proving his worth, even if healthy. I
would have liked the alternatives even less. NatsTown should take up a
collection for the napkins, if that's what it takes to ease the burden on
the Lerner bank vault....
