Out of 30 teams...

Padres #1 in fielding

Padres #30 in hitting

Padres #11 in pitching (they were as high as #5 in pitching last week)

The Padres have the worst record in MLB and the problems are entirely on
offense. Black's offensive strategy is a failure. He needs to manufacture
runs like Bobby Cox did for years in Atlanta when he had stellar pitching
and poor hitting. The Braves would still make the playoffs with poor
offensive numbers because he managed the team in such a way as to
manufacture runs. It can be done. Black needs to follow a proven strategy.

I guess you missed Professor Winn's lecture on park effects. To sum
up: the pitching is far from blameless. Away from home, they have a
5.48 ERA, second worst in the league. No amount of managerial genius
is going to "manufacture" six runs a game to overcome that.

Good points, seapig. Yeah, I missed the discussion.

The "worst record in baseball" tag is a bitter pill to swallow, especially
after the expecations from last year.
