I didn't follow the Phillies' season closely, so forgive me for asking
about what is probably an obvious subject: Where was Hamels in the
playoffs? He was #1 last year, so I'm assuming injury, but hadn't
heard anything about that.

Bobby, Bobby, Bobby.

He hurt his vagina.

End of story.

His wife had a kid, so he probably was thinking of that.

Surely a new-born couldn't be -that- much of a distraction. Should
actually be an inspiration if anything.

Were his stats sliding so badly that he moved from #1 or 2 to
out-of-the-rotation? I understand that Lee is a better pitcher, but I
expected Hamels to be #2 (insert joke here), followed by Pedro, etc.

Wow, so you are out of it, huh? Lee came near the trade deadline and Hamels
had been having just a so-so year. But with the Phillies either leading or
having little competition in the division, having an "Ace" wasn't really all
that important.

Hamels had just one good game all year, against the Dodgers, in LA. At least
that's how I remember it.

So Lee came in, was "lights-out", and Hamels had little internal or external
pressure to be better than a 6-7 inning pitcher that could win every other
game.

So Hamels and Lee were 1 & 2, and if flopped around a little bit maybe, but
no one, and I mean no one, was surprised that Lee got the nod in game #1 of
the playoffs.

Hamels is still pretty much a kid. He still needs to mature a bit. Does he
have the intestinal fortitude to be a great? Well, he certainly didn't show
it this year. He had a lot to prove last year. Much of it, unfortunately,
got tied into money. He got his money, he made the millionaire club, and the
only reason he has to perform now-a-days is his balls.

And, like I said, this past year was more of an ovary than a balls year for
Hamels.

Got it?

"Double-schmaus, funny-bunny moshki" is in
the higher rank of compliments.

Ahhh, Turbam Joe. No insult intended for the "lucid" remark. Just trying to
be funny, I guess.

I responded to OP remarking my whole "vagina" explanation. Google shows it
but not my trusty Outlook Express V6.0 newsgroups reader.

Anyhow, thanks again for the compliment.

He really wasn't that good all year long outside of a handful of
games.
My guess was he got caught up in all the World Series MVP hoopla, the
playboy wife...all that crap and got himself behind right from the get
go and could never recover. Frustration obviously took over and at
that point you are done.
I hope he heeds his own words form the World Series, looking for a
fresh start and actually does the necessary work in the off season to
get himself back to where he should be.
If he gets himself back to where he was, with the addition of Lee and
their offense all coming back another division title is a foregone
conclusion, provided the injury bug doesn't get them.
If he doesn't get back to where he was, they obviously come back to
the pack and it'll be a battle to get tack to the playoffs.
