Boos don't mean the same thing in Philly. It's their
identity now, they run with it. It's like the old old
days in rec.sport.football when somebody called Gary Smith
a goober and he just made it his nom de brawn.

Dude, that's taking being an apologist for boorish 'fandom' to a
ridiculous extreme. Philadelphia fans are the worst in professional
sports, in every sport where they field a team. It's not even close,
and somehow I doubt that the proximity of WVCC is a coincidence.

Dallas fans are the worst in professional sports. They
expect for everything to be given to them and they won't
show up if it's not. And then, whey they do, they spend
more time networking and being seen than they do cheering
the team or even paying attention to the game.
Philly fans, in contrast, are extremely loyal. And isn't
West Virginia Tech closer to Pittsburgh anyway?

Maybe til the all-star break. The Phils are phloundering at home because
it doesn't feel like their ballpark...what with the congenial crowd and
unfamiliar chants of "let's go Phillies," rather than the more inspiring
"YOU SUCK!!!"

Philly fans are among the nastiest.....they DO show up,
however....which is more than can be said in many other cities.

Doesn't this happen with most bandwagons, though? To me, it sounds
like the 49ers fans during the 1990s, or the Avalanche fans during the
2000s, or the Tiger Woods golf fans.

Phillies fans are disgusted with the performance of the team they fell
in love with last year. Their closer suggests that he may have
injured his leg during the celebration after the third out of the
World Series clinching game. Their shortstop and lead off hitter has
become a media "star" (come hear J-Roll's version of "We Are the
Champions" bleats the commercial) who seems to want to prove that he
can "beat out" a season's worth of fly balls. Their manager is a
buffoon who now has his own TV show where he just may, or so say the
promos, teach us Japanese. Maybe the buffoon first ought to first
learn how to speak English.
I have been a Phillies fan since the 1940's but this team and its
manager makes it difficult.
Did they boo last night? Damn right they did. 40,000 plus who paid
good money to sit in the rain for over three hours watching a
lackluster team play dead until a player with a 104 fever come through
and give them a lead they could not hold, or rather Charlie Bumbles
managed to piss away. The genius decided to rest BOTH of his catchers
and play someone named Paul Bako who, prior to last night, he had
entrusted ONE FREAKING AT BAT.
Two more things....why has no one mentioned the fact the home plate
umpire Dan Iassogna clearly said "BALL" before he raised his right
hand and called Chase Utley out, and why is it now mandatory to have
your "closer" pitch the 9th inning when the previous guy had
dispatched the Orioles in the 8th inning on 10 pitches?

You know what? Deward's right. Just an awful, painful loss --- if you are a
Phillies fan. Suppose there may be more than one perspective from the looks

not even 20 minutes. Philly is one of the most outspoken "what have you
done for me lately??" cities in all sports. Just behind New York and
wekk ahead of anywhere else.

Washington Nationals, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia 76ers' and my
alma mater, Northwestern University.
