On August 28, during the A's/Angels game, 1st base umpire was chewing
gum. Why would an umpire be chewing gum? Wouldn't that distract him
from the game?

Being funny or being serious, it doesn't matter. Ballplayers chew gum
and most of them do fine. Now, take a look at your life and ask the
same question if you chew gum. :)
