In last night's game, the umpires reviewed videotape of a potential
Angels home run and eventually decided that it was a lowly double. A
few days before, the umpires did another review of a potential home
run and decided that it was a foul. The ball has passed over or very
near the foul poll. I saw another such review in the game the Giants
won 13-0.

Why can umpires only review replays of possible home runs? Why not
other types of plays? I ask because an umpire clearly blew an out or
safe call at 1st base, mistakenly calling an Angel's runner safe, even
though the A's fielder clearly tagged him before he touched 1st base.
This error led to the Angels win.
BTW, why was the 1st base umpire chewing gum during the game?
