I didn't see a mention of it before and just got in for the day so I thought
I'd pass it on.
He always seemed like a decent ballplayer. 38 is WAY too young to go.

Rod Beck, an All-Star relief pitcher who wore a bushy mustache while earning
286 career saves, has died. He was 38.

Beck was found Saturday by police officers responding to a call to his home
in suburban Phoenix, police department spokesman Andy Hill said Sunday. Foul
play is not suspected, though the cause of death might not be known for
several days.

With unruly hair framing a menacing stare and an aggressive arm swing before
delivering a pitch, the outgoing right-hander was a colorful baseball
personality and a three-time All-Star. He spent the first seven of his 13
major league seasons with the San Francisco Giants.

Why would it take days to figure out why he died. Shouldn't it be
obvious? Heart attack, suicide, stroke. How many choices are there?

They need to do an autopsy, and if they think drugs were involved they have
to wait for the toxicology results.

I'm hoping his ticker just gave out. No suicide or drugs involved.
I'd hate to see him tarnished like that. He seemed like a real salt-
of-the-earth type guy. :_(

38 years of smoking, drinking, and drugs was actually a long time for
him to live. Its a miracle he made it this far.
