No. With an echo you get fewer question marks not more.
I suppose I could have phrased it that anybody who ranks Brock
among the game's elite know nothing of the history of the
game -- he doesn't do too badly in career value among LF
but he isn't on radar in peak and the test of greatness is
doing well in both areas. (Though I don't see how you
can argue for greatness without doing very well on the
peak test, I'm willing to discuss only career value
and Brock's consistency serves him well here)
More specifically anybody who lists Brock ahead of Musial
or Wagner or ... well it's a long list of players easily
better that Brock -- who's on the short list for weakest
HOF selection by the BBWAA.

Series on newsreels. My earliest clear baseball memory,

(Sutton's clearly the better pitcher. Once you throw in Ruffing's

Obviously none of them are mistakes.
Keeler's the easiest to explain. At the time he was voted
in 19th century record keeping was in shambles. The writers
simply thought he was better than he turned out to be.
(To give you some idea of how bad it was, at one point Cap
Anson was widely believed to have over 4,000 hits. A truly
significant error)
And he's not a *bad* player. He'd be a typical VC pick.
Maranville almost certainly got in because of his personal
popularity, but he was a truly great glove man. Did
not adapt well to the new offensive conditions and still
lasted quite some time. Only HOFer I can think of
to spend extensive time in the minors in the middle
of his career.
Obviously you can justify Traynor (though I think
Stan hack is the better player) because there's the huge
gap between Baker and Mathews without him. Not
a HOF case I care for, but I do understand the argument.
