Other than the Yankees and Mets? You figure the Yankees will get either
K-Mat or Zito but not both. Even George doesn't want the budget to be a
quater billion dollars a year. Find it hard to believe anyone will
outbid the Yankees for K-Mat. Meaning the Mets will be only team with
both the money and interest in Zito. Do the Redsox want to pay big
money for someone would pitch third in their rotation? I don't think so.

I would think that the Giants would be one after losing Barry and even
Schmidt, they might be looking for pitching and have room. Plus the west
coast factor.

The Giants really aren't that big a payroll team as Bonds and Schmidt are
1/3 of the payroll.

The Red Sox. The Anahiem Angels. Both teams have higher payrolls than
the Mets and they SPEND.

White Sox also spent more money on payroll than the Mets in 2006.

There are several teams that can offer this years top free agents big money.
The one thing I believe the Mets have going for them is team chemistry. Also
they look in a position to be strong contenders for several years and they
also have a new ball park coming soon. This is the first time in their
history in which I believe many players will want to play for them. I don't
know Zito or any other free agent but I strongly beleive that if the Mets
match any other teams offer many players will choose the Mets. To word it
another way if the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers and who ever else along
with the Mets offer Zito or Soriano the same contract I believe they will be
wearing a Mets uniform. The Yankees will have to beat the Mets offer meaning
they will have to over pay to sign players the Mets are interested in.
No way 2 or 3 years ago Delgado waives his right to demand a trade like he
did this year. He wants to be a Mets as do others who got a taste of playing
for a contender with good chemistry.

IIRC, the Mets are #5 in payroll, with 4 AL teams ahead of them. No
wonder the AL is dominant.
