Javier Vazquez for Luis Castillo??

Vazquez struggled with the Yankees, and had trouble under pressure
with the Sox last year (not necessary the formula that a team like the
Mets needs at this point). O Guillen just blasted him late last
season, so Javier will probably not be back with the Sox's. On the
other hand, he will give a team 200+ innings and strike out 180-200
batters. Based on his history, he will help the team get to the
playoffs, but can't count on him in October. Will Vazquez be better by
pitching in the NL (not facing the DH) or will the NY media be just
too much for him? Can Dan Warthen help him the same way he did with O
Perez?
If the Mets keep Castillo, they will still have to find two starters
(possibly invest in FA). But dealing Castillo for Vazquez (assuming
both teams take the contracts) solves one of the starting spots, plus
opens 2B for Murphy or a better option (internal or external). It will
be like getting a starter for about $5-6M, without hurting the farm
system or losing Draft picks.
I wouldn't mind, as Vazquez will be a bottom of the rotation starter
(although a well paid bottom of the rotation starter) and an
improvement over a combination of Pedro, Vargas, Figueroa, Knight,
Armas, Stokes. It will allow J Niese to get more time at AAA, before
joining the team for good (assuming they find another starter).

Not bad, but could be better too. Best of all, they get rid of
Castillo and minimize the use of the bullpen (as stated, he is a sure
bet of throwing 200 innings).

meetings said the Mets had interest in Javier Vazquez.

The problem of replacing Vazquez in the rotation also may have become
easier this off-season with the emergence of former first-round pick
Aaron Poreda.
One scout who had seen the left-hander in the Arizona Fall League
said, "Whew," when asked about him, adding an emphatic "yes" when
asked if he might be ready for the major leagues.
"I didn't have him on the '09 roster originally," Williams said, "but
I live in Arizona, so I've seen him a few times—and I'm not blind."
Vazquez, who has a no-trade clause to West Coast teams, was fourth in
the American League in strikeouts, but his only winning season in the
last four was 2007, when he finished 15-8. He also had winning records
in Montreal in the early 2000s when current Mets GM Omar Minaya worked
there."

as the Mets do not try and spin it off like Vazques is a #2, slot him
behind Santana, and forget about Lowe. He is a good option for the
back end of the rotation. He's not longer a front end guy.

Vazquez is eons better of a player then Luis Castillo. Even if the
White Sox are looking to move Vazquez, why would they EVER take
Castillo straight up?

Vazquez and Castillo are two players both team want to dump (due to
salary and possible to open as spot for a younger player). They can't
expect much in return, if they want to dump salary.

1.) Their starting shortstop, Orlando Cabrera, is a free agent, which could
mean an opening at second base (should Ramirez move over to shortstop).
2.) They have no OBP at the top of their lineup; all their OBP is from
middle-of-the-order boppers.
3.) Vazquez could be a very expensive fifth starter for them.

Please Ruben, enlighten the NG with your wisdom on how the Mets will
lose draft picks by trading Castillo for Vazquez?
BTW just as an FYI, José Reyes was signed as a amateur free agent.
