There are some Twins fans that are willing to wait and see if Luis Rivas will
develop into a decent player. For those that are unwilling, what about picking
up Alfonzo and move him back to 2B? He could bat 2nd in the order, allowing the
Twins to move the dreadful Guzman to the #9 spot. Heck, although he's no
speedster with only 5 SB's last year, with his excellent OBA, he could bat
leadoff. (Jacque Jones had 6 SB's batting leadoff last year.)
Alfonzo was .308/.391/.459 last year overall. Looking for someone to hit those
lefties that the Twins have so much trouble with? Alfonzo was .364/.477/.545
vs. lefties.

Because the Twins have a fine 3b already?
Alfonzo was only marginally better with the bat, and probably worse with the
glove than Koskie.
Now if you want to move him...

Who cares about speed? He should bat leadoff if he were on the Twins. He had a
.391 OB% last yeah. Wahoo!
I don't think his body can take second anymore. Didn't he move because of an
injury? (Or was it just Alomar?)

I think Alfonzo is a good pick-up for anyone who pays him and well worth 6
million a year. If that is all the Giants give him he might even make up for the
loss of Kent/Bell (playing third, not moving to second) if they can find someone
even iffy to put at second.
I think the top of the Twins shopping list should be Jose Hernandez/Ray Durham
(for one of the blackholes) and someone like Juan Acevedo who can shore up a
bullpen who will probably be worse than it was last year.
The problem is the Twins seem happy everywhere, and when you are looking at a
year where no one really looks to take a step forward, and a couple guys might
sink a bit, that's not an improvement.

Play Alfonso at second? Does Rivas then become a utility infielder,
with Guzman and Cuddyer splitting time at SS?
I'd love to see his bat take the place of either Rivas or Guzman, but
I just don't see the Twins' brass making this kind of move. They seem
committed to Rivas and Guzman up the middle. And who knows? Maybe
they'll be proven right about that one of these years. I'm starting to
doubt it with Guzman, but it's possible.

It was just Alomar.

On the other hand, Alfonzo could revert to 2001 form:
.243/.322/.403
although career numbers are:
.292/.367/.445

I could swear that was in injury. No idea what though. For some really, really
odd reason I always think of John Valentine and Mike Lansing when I think of
Alfonzo.

You know, one would think we can remember two years back for this sort of thing.
I am too lazy to check the rotowire type sites out there though.
