From Dodgers.com article on Dreifort:

"He has not done well as far as connective tissue," said Jobe. (talking
about Darren's extensive recuperative history. Extensive is not even
the word. He is the first human being to be a complete statistically
valid data set of recuperation.)

Since he signed that contract, he has undergone or needed six
operations, while winning nine games.
--

They're actually talking about operating on his hip as well, which would
make it 7? Dreifort wants to go through it all and pitch again...because
he is owed $13.5M next year. The Dodgers have insurance on this, right?
So maybe this actually frees up salary, and we can pursue a crazy waiver
wire deal. Although Edwin Jackson in the bullpen will probably be fine.
Making Sanchez, Jackson, and Brazoban THREE very inexperienced rookies
(even by rookie standards) setting up, which is scary but they do all have
great arms.

Between he, Hundley and Shuey, how much Dodger salary is on the DL now?

Dreifort - $11 million this year
Hundley - $6.5 million
Shuey - $3.8 million
Jackson - $.31 million
Nomo - $8 million
Penny - $3.73 million

$33.34 million

Ouch. Enough to make ME sick.

Forgot about Nomo and Penny.

At least they lose Hundley (FINALLY!!!) next year. Nomo's also gone after this
year, right?

heh, I guess it's one of those perspective things, but I get the feeling that
if Carrara were pitching for the Cubbies today and had two innings for them
like he did for the Dodgers tonight, half that newsgroup would be writing
emails to their GM demanding he be their closer :-)

RWG (things could be MUCH scarier :-)

Maybe, maybe not. This insurance got REALLY expensive over the last few
years (up to 50% of the insured value, I think),so it is not as common as it
once was. I think the Dodgers did not insure Brown's contract the past
couple of years when he was injured.

I tried doing a google search. Is there anywhere on-line where we can
track contracts? Seems like every year <should> be the last in
Dreifort's neverending embezzlement.

If he does require surgery then it bring the grand total to ...11 since
lasorda made him closer and blew out his arm. Gotta feel bad for the guy
he does have great stuff when he's on and considering that he pitched
the other night even though his knee was hurt does show he's a warrior.

Just one more year for DD, at $13M. This site figures the numbers a little
differently, as they have him reported at 11 this year, where I've seen 11.4,
and 13 for next year where I've seen 13.5. Could be due to how you split
up the signing bonus I guess. Take a look at Mike Hampton's contract when
you're feeling down. Or Drew Henson's or Bobby Higginson's.

Bluemanc used to be the best, but the creator has been spotty on
updating. For this year's salaries (but no updating for inseason
movement)

is good.

Dreifort and Green's contracts expire after the 2005 season.

Thanks for the link. I was fairly certain Ima knew most of his stuff
right off the top of his head, but for the rest of us there has to be
a source...Thanks.

For further cheering see
Mo Vaughn
Pat Burrell
Roger Cedeno
Jeff Cirillo
Darin Erstad
Jason Kendall
Tim Salmon
and that's not even counting Yankees

Of those, Erstad may be the only one deserving a paycheck. Maybe
Burrell and Kendall. Salmon is just reaping the booty of campaigns
past. Mo? That's what happens when somebody says "How about $100K a
pound"
