Over the last two seasons it was clear that Milo was winding down and
Alan was winding up. No one could ever take the place of Milo, but last
year the 4th and the 7th was as close as it gets. I don't know exactly
how long Alan has been part of the Astros organization, but his
commitment to the Astros and long term personal experience in the
organization help to make him a great broadcaster.
I was extremely disappointed to hear that the Astros decided to replace
Alan Ashby. I am extremely disappointed because I think he is the
perfect follow up to Milo and the Astros are going in the absolute wrong
direction. What is the point? Alan Ashby has history with the club and
I think is well like in the community. Did the Astros consult with
Charley Casserly?
As if to poor salt in the wounds, the Astro's decide to hire guy who
have commentated "SELECT GAMES" and have no affiliation with Houston,
much less Texas. Maybe the Astro's want to drop the radio show all
together and are finding a way to crash the whole program.
I will defiantly avoid the radio broadcast of the game if at all
possible. At least I can stage my own personal protest.

Hopefully Ashby will land on his feet with a local TV station.
Maybe he just spoke the TRUTH too much for McLane.

On 610 this morning, he said he's jobless. Asked listeners to phone in
if they had any leads.
He really sounded devestated. Said he thinks he came on too strong in
his interview.
If he insisted he do Play-by-play, when they would have been willing to
keep him for color commentator, maybe.
Ditto. I liked Ash as a player, but he's got a high-pitched voice, and
that doesn't do well for radio. Maybe for color, but not for play-by-
play.
I wonder if they're going to get yet another former Astros player to
replace him. I like Deshaies, but there's no way he'd go to radio if he
has a chance to stay on TV.
