Alrighty guys. Let's try to have some discourse here that doesn't fall into
the abyss of nabob negativity that certain folks claim. Rumors out of
Chicago and Detroit are that the Cubs are interested in obtaining Curtis
Granderson from the Tigers. The plan would be to put Granderson in center
and move Kosuke back to right. For the course of his career, Curtis is about
the equivalent of Milton statistically. When Milton is at his best, he is
better but he has not been able to maintain that peak performance.
Granderson has more speed and is three years younger. And to this point in
his career, Granderson doesn't have the injury problems that MB has. The bad
news is that Detroit doesn't want MB and does want the Cubs newest shining
star prospect, Starlin Castro. That isn't a deal that I would want to make
at this point. How about you?

Not Castro, but I would be willing to give up any of the other top
prospects.

In article <yOBMm.913$ge1...@unlimited.newshosting.com>,
fse...@nospam.com says...

Granderson is an excellent player right now (despite the off year), and
he's in his peak. Castro might be a great player one day, or he could be
Corey Patterson. But to have a 19 yr. old SS with that much talent means
that to trade him could end up as poorly as Brock for Broglio.

If it has to come down to Castro for Granderson, that's a tough call. If
you could replace Castro with Vitters or Hak-ju Lee, then I'd make the
trade. If I had to make a choice though, I'd keep Castro. If he fizzles
out in a couple of years it will look like a bad move, but good SS are
really hard to find, and it's a resource worth keeping.

Let me start by saying I have never really seen Curtis Granderson play
so
my comments are based on looking at his stats...

I
really can't believe the Cubs are looking at Granderson, let alone
considering
giving up Starlin Castro for him. It would be interesting to know whos
idea this
is (Hendry or Louie). I'm not sure what they see in him... Apparently
that 30 in
the HR column is rather alluring.

Granderson had a really nice 2007 season, decent 2008 season and not
too good
2009 season. His BA, OBP and SLG have fallen every year since 2007. At
a time
when he should be hitting his physical peak, hes tailing off in many
important
offensive categories. Thats not a good sign to me.

If the Cubs want a new centerfielder, I think they should go after
Carlos Beltran.
If you're going to trade Starlin Castro, I'd rather get Beltran than
Granderson.
Angel Pagan actually had a decent season for the Mets last year. Who
knows,
maybe they would be willing to get rid of Beltran.
