My guess is that this isn't gonna happen.
It has happened. It took two minor leaguers and L.A. paying part of
his contract to get him
I'm surprised. I didn't think LA would give him away so easily. Pierre
is a good addition.

After almost 5 years a real centerfielder!!! I am really stoked about
this one. I very rarely have anything nice to say about KW ( for the
last 3-4 years you have see why) but this time I will give him his
due( hey I'm an asshole but I'm fair) We now go into 2010 with a REAL
3d baseman and a REAL CF. we can now run, bunt, hit and run which will
mean we always have a chance to win in every game.
So now is it Rios in right?

Sorry but I don't have much faith in the guy. You can rub that "one"
on me next year. For what it's worth, the only break I see is that the
Dodgers spent the money and not the WS. As far as integrity, well
that's really what the game is all about and Podsednik gave us 100%
integrity (although he wasn't the best at CATCHING the ball although
no doubt he could get to it).
I'll say (guess) that we can expect a .247 BA from Pierre. And while
I'm at it, don't expect anything from Rios (KW should never have
signed the egotistical prick). Then there Kotsay - ARE YOU FELLAS
JIVING ME, the Oakland reject? I said it last year and I'll say it
again, he's "at best" a reserve second stringer. Lastly the KC third
baseman (what's his name) that never became what was expected? I'll
hope that he (at best) "clubs" twenty HRs and bats a mighty .260. I
certainly don't have any high expectations of him either.
As far as I'm concerned, the only ones that might carry this team -
are the ones that won it all in '05.
By mid-season - next year, KW will be looking for some mid-relievers
and probably take anything available in Birmingham and Charlotte.
They say Rios in CF, Pierre in LF, & Quentin in RF.
Still like to see another power bat in between Quentin & Konerko.
Why wait?

Actually Pierre is better at the plate (carrer BA is 30 points
higher, more doubles, and more triples) better on the bases( almost
twice as many stolen bases) than your boy Scott. He is better in the
field ( higher fielding %) and he can bunt (neither of which Scotty
was very good at) ( BTW there was alot of doubt if Scott could get to
the ball and if he did would he catch it) Here are some links so you
can A B their stats although I know you won't as it might interfer
with you having an opinion

I will guess closer to .280 - .320
. And while

I don't care what he hits. As long as he covers the gaps and catches
the ball he will be a MAJOR improvement over what we have had out
there for the last 4 years. If he does this and hits .280 (which is
his lifetime average) he will be a fine addition to the team
Then there Kotsay - ARE YOU FELLAS
>JIVING ME, the Oakland reject? I said it last year and I'll say it

Kotsay will give you average to a little above average play at the
plate and in the field. What more do you want from a guy who is the
sub outfielder and first baseman. He hits around .275 lifetime and
hits pretty well in the clutch so what more do you want from a DH/PH?
. Lastly the KC third

That would give him pretty Crede like numbers ( maybe a wee bit
better) Either way he is a major upgrade over Josh Fields on all
levels of play

With the improvment in defense and the pitching staff we have I see no
reason why the Sox can't compete for the division title and even go
further than that (assuming evey one has average years). If we had a
catcher that could throw all the way to second base I would even feel
better .
Jim
KW didn't sign Rios......
I'm entitled to my opinion - like anyone else.
I also know where to look for statistics, thanx.
If you disagree, great!
So how do you compare this team to '05?
Who did?
Flowers may be your man, I'm guessing he'll get more time next year
especially if AJ gets in the DH rotation with Jones, Konerko, Kotsay,
Quentin, Teahen. The offense, defense and starting pitching are all improved
but I'm not convinced we've got enough quality arms in the pen to compete
for the division. I'm looking forward to Ozzies version of baseball with the
versatility he'll have this year.
I liked what Podsednik did for us last year on offense, but cringed every
time he had to go back on the ball, also I always thought his speed made up
for a bad reads off the bat. I always saw him as a 4th outfielder.
He was signed to his extension when he was with Toronto...blame them.
I agree that they need another arm in the bullpen. You can't depend on
Linebrink and you can't use the same 3 guys everyday.
I'd also feel better if they added a left handed power guy to the DH
spot. Speed is good, but in their ballpark you need power unlike the
old Comiskey where you could get away without much power.

Maybe we could find a lefthanded power hitting catcher that can thro
all the way to second base :-)

Yeah but KW claimed him on waivers with that contract in place
Jim
I saw Flowers a few times in the fall last year and he looked very
lost against Major League pitching. ( alot like Anderson did).
I agree with you on Podsednik. He seemed to come in on the ball OK
but going back or to the right or left was an adventure
I think in the bullpen you can try to have enough arms but can't
always . You have to hope that one of the unknown guys steps up ( a la
Cliff Polite) If the guys in the bullpen were consistantly great they
would be, by defention, starters or closers

I think this team is strronger out of the gate than the 05 team altho
AJ is not the catcher he was in 05 ( this is not to denigrate him in
any way it is just that the position takes it's toll and he is prett
old in catcher years)
Jim
I'm glad to hear that.... I hope you're right. BUt as long as there's
a Linebrink, everything is up in the air!
Also the Sox need another power bat, preferably left handed. Ed Farmer
was on the Score yesterday and the hosts mentioned another power bat.
I have no problem with more speed and defense, but power is necessary
in this ballpark which is not like the old Comiskey Park.
I just don't see where we could get such a player that would fit
Ozzie's model of a guy who can actually play a position, too, but
would be affordable. Any ideas?
If Ozzie is gonna stick to that theory that a DH has to play another
position, than the Sox won't get that power guy which I feel they need.
