Yeah I chuckled when I saw that in this mornings paper.
First I was wondering what the Yankees are thinking. I would think
they could get more
for Cabrerra. On the other hand, Vasquez might work for them if they
use him as a bottom of the rotation
starter which is what I assume they will do. If they get anything out
of Logan, which I doubt, that
would be a bonus.
Yeah, I never saw the move with Melky coming either. The Yankee fans I
know were pretty surprised, too. But I agree, as long as Vasquez is a
bottom of the rotation guy, he might be somewhat valuable.
My guess is that the Yanks have enough talent to dispose of.
I've always liked Vazuez, even if he generally is a .500 pitcher -
when he's good, he can be near unhittable, but when he's bad, somekind
of Jekyll and Hyde thing. Maybe the Yankees's pitching coach can
figure his head out?
Boone Logan wasn't too impressive with the Sox and I'm surprised that
he's still around but then again what's with N.Y.'s thing for
pitching?
Anderson went for $700k. This isn't like Dick Allen signing with the
White Sox in the early 70's for an astonishing $300k. I still think of
Brian as having the potential to be a steady CF. Playing back-up for
Rowand wasn't an easy task. Under the stress of being Aaron's
replacement was any player's toughest challenge. His glove wasn't bad
- at all, but his bat sucked. Then getting traded to Boston? Come on!
Everyone in Beantown was praying for another Johnny Damon, just like
we were hoping for another Rowand. In fact, I recall Anderson's first
stint in '05 at Minnesota, under little pressure. Bingo! Home Run! I'm
not sure but I think it was his first ML at bat (could be wrong,
though), or at least it was his first ML game. Yet after all those
insecurities, our personal doubts and his struggles compounded by the
deserved fan criticism, he came into the last game of the '08 season
(#163) under an extremely tough situation vs. Minn (replacing Wise?) &
with two out and a speedball (Punto) at second and another speedster
at bat. We watched the batter "slap" the ball into the rightfield gap
and it sure looked like nobody was going to reach it (forget Dye), but
Brian somehow pulled every determined legmuscle (win or lose) out of
his body to reach it and give the Sox the division. Wise would never
have gotten to it and I ponder whether Rowand would have either. Take
it to this year's already proven showing by Rios' and yeow - Anderson
showed again (at least) more allegiance! And for all that unfair (or
fair) criticism the kid has endured, I hope that the pressure in K.C.
is off and he can play his game the way the scouts knew he could.
Sure I hated all the critical strikeouts when he whiffed throughout
'06, etc. But I believe that he made up for all those on that one play
in Oct. '08 when Thome hit an HR and scored the only run. Now had all
that happened in N.Y., (typically) it would have been a day in infamy
considering the "Black Out"!
