If Cabrera wins the Triple Crown, is he the MVP? It's been
45 years since the last one, the longest dry spell in MLB
history. Only 12 players in the modern era (1893-present),
have won a Triple Crown (The Rajah and the Splendid Splinter
won 2 each) and only 5 have won the Major League, as to
opposed to just their league, title (The Peach, Rajah, The
Iron Horse, Thumpin' Theodore, and The Commerce Comet). All
are in Hall.

If The Kid wins the batting title, is he the MVP? Tony
Oliva (.323 in 1964) and Ichiro Suzuki (.350 in 2001) are
the only players in the modern era who won a batting title
in their rookie seasons. Both were RoY and Ichiro was also
the MVP.

I think if Cabrera wins the Triple Crown he will get MVP, whether the Tigers make the playoffs or not. Since I've been a baseball fan, no one has won the Triple Crown. As a kid, just learning about baseball history and all that, I noted that Yaz and Frank Robinson won it "just a few years ago, back to back," and assumed it would happen again very soon. 45 years is a long time and shows how great you have to be to pull it off. I'm actually rooting for Cabrera here, but if Hamilton continues to have nagging injuries, Trout going back to his July self could ruin it for "Miggy Cabs."

But I think the season has worn on MNT. He looked pretty bad at the plate in the 4-2 win over the Chisox on 9/22. Wasn't it both Fred Lynn and Al Kaline who said The Kid might have a rough end of the year? They were both in the same spot: rookie phenoms, and a long season, longer than anything you'd ever seen.

If the Tigers don't get Fielder over this past off-season, Miggy Cabs doesn't see as many pitches around the plate, Trout wins the batting title and maybe MVP...if the Angels make the post-season. But if, if, if.

I predict: Cabrera will win the Triple Crown and MVP, The Kid RotY in a laffer. But I think Kid gets a lot of 1st place votes for the MVP race. Does he get a Gold Glove? I think so.

Same scenario I see. BTW, I think the Kid will get his
second wind when we make the playoffs.

Hope you're right, Johnny. Right now he's 3rd in batting and struggling to finish in the Top 5, it seems.

Count me as one of those who wish he'd start taking a cut at the first pitch he sees.
