Sounds like he left because of issues that also plagued BV's
tenure--friction with the front office (it sounds like they
dictated the four-man rotation), and not being able to name
his own coaches. He had conditions for his returning which
were not met. Would Larry & Co. agree to his terms here? I'm
not sure that they would.

He's saddled with that experience too.

He was a good ballplayer.
Could help Middlebrooks. He won a couple Gold Glove, despite being
referred to as "A poor man's Brooks Robinson."

Experience as a Hitting Coach, minor league management and now a Third
Base Coach.

Good luck.

Like the idea of Wallach also. Kinda my feeling of Farrell is great pitching coach, nothing proven as a manager. Why pay for him?

====================================================

If Toronto thinks so highly of Farrell they should extend his contract and
prove it. Otherwise they're just overplaying their hand and screwing with
him AND the Sox. Not smart IMO. Call their bluff. If it were up to me I'd
quietly tell them that. Offer a very low minor leaguer (along the lines of
what the Sox got for Theo) as a face saving device...but if they don't
bite...move on. I'm okay with giving him a chance to restore the careers of
Lester and Buchholz and Bard...as well as his own. But they should NOT give
up any real value to do it.
