Ortiz-Valentine bicker over steroids verbiage

Ortiz still hasn't reached a deal with the Sox. Bobby (perhaps it is time to
start Valentine that?) thinks that the contract should stipulate that Ortiz
will not be paid for the duration if he is suspended for steroids use, which
may need to be a vital ingradient in our beloved DH's success this late in
his career. Of course he tested positive for Performance Drug even during
his prime, so the stage of the career hardly matters. Ortiz's lawyer
mentioned PD in the contract and Valentine mistook it for Prima Donna,
causing further miscommunication. Francona had to step in to appease Ortiz.
One hopes Epstein will similarly step in for his old club when Lackey feels
slighted by the new regime.

Ortiz wants the contract to spell out that he will take only such drugs as
the club stipulates, monitored by Lucchino's masking experts. If he still
gets caught, well, it would then be the experts' fault and Ortiz thinks he
should not lose any money for the period he is suspended. Money... that is
what this is all about. If the team is really facing any money limits, Ortiz
was the first player who should have been cut, and yet Bobby flies to meet
him and they run Scutaro out of the town?

These days at least the players who were allegedly run out of town (Nomar,
Pedro) are coming back to Boston, unlike Mo Vaughn and Clemens. So there is
hope Ortiz and Boston can love each other again in 2020, whatever happens in
2012.
