How many of you tip your auto mechanics ? If you really want to make
your tip money pay dividends you should start there. I pay cash and
tip them good. I get a break on the price - I don't get ripped off
being sold shit I don't need - and I get scheduled when I want to. I
get straight answers from the mechanics - no bs. Think about it -
your protecting your 20 to 30K vehicles - you don't have to be worried
about getting ripped off and all for a lousey 10 or 20 dollar bill. <
and btw, I don't care if the guy owns the place or not > How are you
making out ?

Sarge; I'm good with that.
I worked at a dealership with my mechanic. We left for different
reasons.
He opened his own garage/gas station.
He works on my ride. I pay him cash and also tip. I buy breakfast or
lunch.
I get good service and no rip off.
It's a good way to go.
And I always tip!

Usually not, but I usually take it to a place with eight mechanics and I
don't even met the guy who did the work.

Last year I hired a guy to fix my HVAC. He noticed a plumbing leak nearby
and fixed that as well. He did't charge anymore, and it took him an extra
hour. The original job was $400. I gave him an extra $100.

Each to his own. I get tires and maybe an oil change, fix / change a
small trailer / cart tire, or inspection at Mavis where there are a
bunch of guys working. I deal with the manager and tip him. He makes
sure I get taken care of , he comes up with coupons or some other
discount on tires, no charge for the small tires, and my cars pass
inspection without them charging $15 each for windshield wipers or $8
for taillight bulbs.
