Read this on mlb.com, Konerko to Angels, A. Gonzalez to White Sox,
prospects to San Diego. I know A. Gonzalez is one of the guys you lot like
to see on the Red Sox, if this rumor is true the Red Sox might wanna look
elsewhere.

The White Sox just sent a bunch of prospects to San Diego for Peavy...
how much of the White Sox do the Padres want?

In that deal it sounds like the Angels may be sending the prospects to SD.

Too bad - AGon (the 1B one) would look damn good here.

Surely, the Sox have a better deal to offer on him than the Angels?

I doubt it. The Sox farm system is not currently strong.

Why wouldn't the Angels just send the prospects straight to SD and get
Gonzalez themselves?

Don't know, maybe what they are sending isn't enough, but enough to get
Konerko, and the White Sox are kicking in one or two prospects.

Throw in Ellsbury then.

Normally Theo and Co. have a formula: They love to trade players whom
noone wants for players they do want.
And further, they spend huge amounts of $$ for hopefuls of excremental
value.
Hence.....bridesmaids for perpetuity! heh heh heh ...

Gee...not Youk and Pedroia too?

The solution to filling one hole (that is already occupied BTW) is not to
open up others. They may already have one opening in the OF...while they
have several options already at first. Adrian would be a nice
addition...but not at a ridiculous cost.

youk and pedroia are solid at their positions. ellsbury is not, but
seems to have a good reputation, so now would be a good time to deal
him. unfortunately, that would leave a hole in cf, and the sox need
ellsbury as a placeholder until Westmoreland is ready. maybe reddick
for a year and then kalish?

Reddick? The guy who hit .120 in AAA and under .200 in the majors. In
a year maybe, but the year in not going to be 2010. I have confidence
in Ellsbury. I wouldn't deal him unless it was a great offer.

On what planet is Adrian Gonzalez not a good offer? Ellsbury is good but
overrated.

Again, trading Ellsbury leaves a hole. Reddick isn't proven or ready.

Well, at least it is mine. I don't touch other guys there. I responded
to this "On what planet is Adrian Gonzalez not a good offer? Ellsbury
is good but overrated." I pointed out that I couldn't comment on a
deal without all the proposed pieces being mentioned. I am certainly
under no obligation or even expectation to present an offer in that
instance. If he says to trade Ellsbury for Adrian Gonzalez I would
think that would be a damn good deal, but an idiotic proposal because
it would never happen. To make a deal the other team has to think THEY
are receiving "a good offer".

You present it. You are the one who said we didn't have a strong enough
farm system so I said to throw in Ellsbury. If the farm system is so weak
you shouldn't care who else is involved.

yep, it's unreal but i'm worried about the cf situation. players who
rely primarily on speed tend to peak earlier than most players and
fizzle out pretty fast. ellsbury might improve, but i wouldn't count
on it, and now is the best time to get any value for him. those
prospects are too far down the line to help, so i hope that ellsbury
can be at least decent for one more year and that someone steps up to
take his place by 2011.

I think Ellsbury can be more than someone who runs fast. I think he
has enough pop to hit 20+ homers.

I think the park is against him as far as HR goes.

What Ellsbury needs to is get strong enough to reach the wall and be
able to drive the ball to the gaps.

I qualify a player as a power hitter as someone who hits an extra base
hit in 10% of his AB.

In 2007 when Ellsbury first came up he hit 11 extra base hits in a 116
at bats. That gave us peek as to what he could be.

The year he had 45 EB hits in 624 AB.....if he hit 17 more it would
made him one of the better players in the league..
