Andre Dawson only HOFer this year...

Dawson was the only player elected by the Baseball Writers Association
of America to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Dawson received 77.9 percent of the vote, just above the 75 percent
needed for enshrinement. Bert Blyleven got 74.2 percent, missing
election by just five votes. Roberto Alomar, widely expected to be a
shoo-in, finished third with 73.7 percent. Jack Morris and Barry
Larkin were the only other players to top 50 percent.
Dawson was the 1977 National League Rookie of the Year with the
Montreal Expos and the 1987 NL MVP with the Chicago Cubs. He made
eight All-Star teams and won eight Gold Glove awards in his 21-year
career spent with the Expos, Cubs, Red Sox and Marlin. Dawson finished
with 438 home runs and 1,591 RBIs.

WTF? This must be some kind of "sick" joke or something...How did
Roberto Alomar not get into Cooperstown??? He was arguably the best 2B
in MLB for at least 5 years, and he was a career .300 hitter during
his 17 year career (not to mention 10 gold gloves, 6 in a ROW (97 gold
glove went to Vizquel I think)....that's a damn shame! He was silky
smooth at 2B, I think he was probably one of the top 3 2B of all-time
in the history of MLB.

It's crazy that Dawson makes it and Alomar does not. The whole process is
rendered nearly worthless by nonsense like this.

Honestly, a "a miserable excuse for a human being and certainly a much
worse person than Alomar ever was" is a pretty good description of
most sports media people, espcially those here in Boston.

Oops...my bad. But whoever took the 1997 gold glove from Alomar, I
demand a re-count!!<g> I think they just gave it too somebody else,
just for the sake of giving it too somebody else that year, since
Alomar was on a 6 gold-glove streak from 1991-1996.
