Sounds like he left because of issues that also plagued BV's tenure--friction with the front office (it sounds like they dictated the four-man rotation), and not being able to name his own coaches. He had conditions for his returning which were not met. Would Larry & Co. agree to his terms here? I'm not sure that they would.

That must be why he won 93 & 95 games his 2 years here.
If Toronto thinks so highly of Farrell they should extend his contract and prove it. Otherwise they're just overplaying their hand and screwing with him AND the Sox. Not smart IMO. Call their bluff. If it were up to me I'd quietly tell them that. Offer a very low minor leaguer (along the lines of what the Sox got for Theo) as a face saving device...but if they don't bite...move on. I'm okay with giving him a chance to restore the careers of Lester and Buchholz and Bard...as well as his own. But they should NOT give up any real value to do it.
