Can't tell the players without a scorecard ???

starting pitcher. Some new arms in the pen. A new catcher (From
opening day last yea at least.). A new short stop, third baseman and
outfielder. Seems like an unusual number of changes for a team that
won 95 games last year. Is it to make them more of a post season team
than they were las year?

Different players ? Who cares ? I just want to see pics of the
ballgirls - both the old ones and any new ones. On the team site they
should add a link to a site that shows the girls.

That's cause you remember when 6 or 8 guys played all 154 games - the
lineup was virtually the same every day - and also from year to year.

when all teams used that same approach before free agency.

yunno, there is a whole can of worms regarding fan loyalty.
why should a fan be a fan of their team's owner(s) instead of the
players?
if they keep moving players around like the mercenary soldiers they
are, it's not just the scorecard, it's the game itself. this group
often will bring up ex-redsox players who are playing elsewhere now.
i remember when some of us here were apoplectic about manny going out
to a bar with that yankee player who used to be on the cleveland team
when manny was there. players form friendships - duh.
of course the extreme opposite, where your team's players can only
come from your own region, would be terrible.

Hasn't this always been the way? Remember a guy they called Babe? Nothing
that new about player movement...just that the players have much more of a
say...which is only right. I root for my team for reasons of tradition and
geographic loyalty I guess. I know all kinds of fans. I have a brother in
law who is a front runner and roots for the Yanks...though he is a Pats fan
for football. I have a sister in law that roots for the Yanks because her
boyfriend does and she went with him to NY. I have a friend who is an
Orioles fan for no apparent reason. He also used to root for the
Lakers...until they got Kobe. His son is a Dolphins fan. Why? Because he
likes their colors. <shrug>
You can call it rooting for laundry if you wish. I root for Boston teams.
It's my home...though I live just outside the city now. I love this area.
I grew up a Boston sports fan, and I stay loyal to all my local teams. I
see no more of a good reason to remain loyal to players who are doing a job
and really are just looking out for their own self interest generally.
Which is fine. My wife is also a true blue and rabid Boston team fan as
well. My two daughters are about as fanatical as their parents. It's a
family thing. My oldest suffers the slings and arrows from the LA fans
where she has relocated and never gave a thought to changing allegiance at
all. She wears her Red Sox stuff and her "Shipping Up to Boston" hoodie
with pride...even though she catches crap.
I wish no ill will because of it. My "hatred" for other teams is not any
deeper than trash talk and bragging rights. It's not really hate...which I
try to refrain from no matter how I might sound sometimes. We're damn lucky
to have good sports franchises here...these days. I'd still remain true
(and always have) regardless. It has nothing at all to do with the
owners...though I'd say we have pretty good ones currently in all the big
sports. Even the Bruin's seem committed to working at it now.

yeah, i pretty agree that we still wind up rooting for the teams we
grew up near. i still root for the Tigers where i grew up. i also
developed a dislike for the Yankees then and when Baltimore was doing
so well, i would root for them. my 2 teams - Boston & whoever is
playing the yankees - hadnt been completely formulated yet. as for
bandwagoning, i guess the Oakland A's back in the day with their white
shoes were so fun i started rooting for them, too. listening to Sandy
Koufax strike out all the yankees was huge fun, but somehow i never
became a fan of the LA Dodgers. Brooklyn certainly would've been more
acceptable. same with Bob Gibson striking out all those
yankees...never became a cardinal fan....
i'm not a football or hockey fan.
but our little high school had a great basketball team and the coach
would teach running basketball, the fast break, modeled after the
Celtic style. (the Pistons at the time had that White Sox pitcher
playing for them, Dave Debusschere, who went to Philly for a nice
rivalry there.)
