I'm not a Red Sox fan. I was asking Red Sox fans. (And kind of
hoping for a civil discussion.)
Don't expect one from Tristan de Cunha. He is a Yankee fan who trolls
our Red Sox group.
My opinion? Possibly age, though I don't think he should be cut loose
yet. Lot's of players have bounced back from poor years.

Neither is he. He's a n idiot troll.
The reason is mostly likely that catching takes a very hard toll on the
body and catchers have shorter careers. The ones that can still hit often
transfer to another position late in their careers, like first base. That
might even work for Tek, but not in Boston.

I'm not sure that it's accurate to say "catchers have shorter
careers". I think it's better to say they have a shorter time when
they are offensively productive......or maybe productive on offense.
Cuz in a way Varitek is "offensively productive"...no?
Anyway.....if anyone wants to nominate the last team to miss out on
making the playoffs because of a bad performance from the back-up
catcher I'm willing to do the research to prove it one way or the
other.
NYY had a lot of good things happen to them this year. Damon, ARod,
Jeter, Matsui, Pettitte, Swisher, Cano all were above my expectations,
as was their relief. NYY needed to have good things happen to have
such a good season and win the WS. But a big "good thing" was the
revival of Posada. I was v. happy when Jorge signed that big contract,
as I expected him to be dog meat by the end. But the guy can still
hit. And he is throwing well again. Not a great receiver, of course,
but that was always true.
Have you pee-tested Posada lately?
But yet ...look at Posada..so much for that.
Just shake his hand.

ugh!
huh?
Oh yeah, Bard. Find me ONE catcher ever who has bounced back from 2
consecutive terrible years at 37 or older. Dufus.
