Syd and Peter - as dumb as the candidates

In an article in yesterday's "Washington Post," Sydiot Thrift says that
the Orioles have interest in Mike Hampton. Now, everybody and his
grandmother knows that Hampton will command a contract probably equal to
what Mike Mussina will be offered, yet Mussina is too expensive for
Angelos. So why isn't Hampton?? Mussina is an Oriole product, and a fan
favorite, plus he's a career A.L. pitcher who pitches well in Camden
Yards. Hampton, though lefty and younger, has not pitched in the A.L.
with its smaller parks, and may not do as well in our league as he has in
the N.L. It's fine if the Orioles want to sign Hampton to pitch along
with Mussina in our rotation, but damn stupid if they are willing to pay
Hampton more than Moose and let Moose go.

GIVE MUSSINA HIS 14 OR 15 MIL ALREADY, PETER, YOU DUMB ASS! YOU WOULD
HAVE HAD HIM FOR 12 MIL PER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON IF NOT FOR YOUR
DAMN DEFERRED MONEY HANGUP!!

I'll bet Peter wouldn't accept deferred money for legal fees.

Agreed. As a lifelong Orioles fan (31 years), losing Mussina in this
manner will be the last straw for me. My O's memorabilia yard sale will
commence around Thanksgiving I suppose : )

As a fan for 35 years, it may be more than I can handle as well. My wife
doubts my ability to follow through, but I find their stance on Mussina to
be amazingly dumb.

The current regime has caused me to question what it means to be a
fan...what is the attraction?
The players? Cal will be the only link to the O's that I grew up with,
other players that seemed to embody the Oriole way are gone replaced by the
likes of Belle.
The city? This is tenuous at best...although born in northern Virginia, I
have been away for a long time.
The tradition? It means nothing to Angelos and the "brain trust"
The ballpark? Camden Yards is still special, but so was Memorial Stadium.
The underdog factor? Not the way this ownership group tosses money around
ineffectually?

Before I was an Orioles fan, I was a Colts fan...when they left my love for
the NFL went with them...is it possible for Angelos to destroy my love of
the birds?

I don't know, but it gets harder every year.

agreed as this is once again an Os public relation ploy to attempt to show
that they are going after quality players.....they float these rumors when
in fact the fans know that they don't make sense as you point out.

He went to court to force Maryland to give him his tobacco settlement fees

Peter is just a F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lawyer. This team has been in the dumper for 3
years now I am sick of the NY team. I am from NJ. I have been an "O" fan for
about 33 years.
