Wellstone campaign chairman Jeff Blodgett was so broken up by the
death of his boss that he helped to blow up balloons and pour
champaign for the four-hour memorial service that degraded into a
party rally.

"I regret if people took offense or were taken by surprise ... We are
a hurting bunch here," Blodgett said, referring to campaign members?
sadness following the Eveleth plane crash that killed Wellstone, his
wife, daughter, three aides and two pilots on Friday.

Blodgett told reporters that "we really were troubled by the death of
Wellstone. It took us three hours to pick a replacement!"

Overcome with loss, Blodgett helped ease the period of mourning by
pasting "Mondale" stickers over "Wellstone for Senate" signs.

"We are just feeling some serious pain here!" said Blodgett, as he
carefully rearranged letters on some old "Save The Whales" bumper
stickers to read "Whalestone." "(Sniff), It's the best we can do"
explained Blodgett. "We only do this in the memory whats-his-name"

Blodgett later led a group of mourners to a gallery where they could
fire assault weapons at targets imprinted with the face of Charleston
Heston, and sample the latest treats from Wolfgand Puck. "We hate
assault weapons" said Blodgett, "but it really depends on who is doing
the shooting." He explained that "This helps us to actualize our
connection to the universe. It helps us to summon our wavelength with
the crystal Mothership."

Can't stand the fact that yet again a dead man will always beat a live

If Republicans want equal time, they should arrange for Coleman to die.

That's not really a very flattering argument for Democrats. They have to
die if they want to get elected.

Supposedly, in real general terms, there's about 40% that'll vote straight
Republican and 40% will vote straight Democrat. Then there's the 20%
that'll lean one way or the other depending on various things. Like which
party has been in power for the past 10 or so years, has the incumbent
broken any major promises or has done anything unethical. I'm guessing
that's where all the negative ads can come in to play to try and sway/scare
the "undecided" voters one way or another..

Yeah, neither do I. I know a few straight-party voters - my late
grandmother being a prime example, she never met a Democrat she didn't
vote for, including Mondale in 1984 - but I can't believe the sheer
density of some people to be that...well, dense...when it comes to
their vote. I know it exists, obviously, but there's this small
idealist inside of me that says everybody should know what they're
voting for.

That's why I HATE negative political commercials. They always examine
the opponents voting record and distort it to make them look like a
baby killer. When you hear a stern voice say "Mel Mellor voted against
raising money for schools" and you see a picture of some sad-looking
kid reading an old textbook, your initial thought is "Mel Mellor is a
bad man!" without thinking "hey, maybe Mel voted against a 30% tax
raise that would have given 18 cents more to the school district."

Which brings me to my favorite topic - politicians talking about their
record on education. They all trumpet about how they've raise test
scores, added new buildings, brought in new computers, etc...and bully
for them. But why are our kids still dumb as sticks?

>But why are our kids still dumb as sticks?

Look at their role models in the highest offices of the land.

Can anyone name the last Republican president who actually engaged in a serious
academic or intellectual pursuit? It was probably Hoover.

In the meantime, Democrats like McGovern, Ph.D, in history and WW II hero;
Moynihan, Ph.D. and Harvard faculty; Adlai Stevenson, Paul Douglas, and
countless others brought remarkable minds to public office.

But the American people want common people to lead them, and that is one reason
why generation after generation of kids is not learning.

GWB -- affirmative action to get into Yale, a gentleman's MBA, leading to
failed businesses.

Clinton -- JD from Yale, state attorney general.

GHWB -- affirmative action to get into Yale.

Reagan -- B.A. from Eureka College

Carter -- USNA, nuclear engineering

Ford -- B.A. Michigan, Yale law.

Nixon -- B.A., Whittier; Duke law

Johnson -- B.A., San Angelo State

JFK -- Harvard, published historian, Pulitzer Prize winner

Eisenhower -- USMA, president Columbia University

Truman -- unknown

FDR -- Harvard

Hoover -- Stanford, engineer

Coolidge (uknown)

Harding (hah hah)

Wilson, Ph.D., president of Princeton.

Graduated from Amherst College.

(He went to Ohio Central College. Although he was clearly overmatched as
President, he was a champion of civil rights, reversing Wilson's exclusion
of blacks from federal posts. He also was vocal in calling for political
and educational equality for blacks.)

> Wilson, Ph.D., president of Princeton.

(Generally considered a failure. Ran on isolationist pledge in 1916,
immediately moved to get US into war. His insistance on LON and other
provisions of peace treaty were among the causes of WWII.)

You missed TR (Harvard) and Taft (Yale).

So the people who "want common people to lead them" have elected 4 Yales, 3
Harvards, 1 Princeton, 1 Stanford in this century.
The most influental of the 20th Century were TR, FDR, Truman, Eisenhower,
Johnson, Nixon and Reagan. (Note: without going into the pros and cons of
each man's tenure, these 7 had far greater influence on the nation than the
11 others). That's two Ivy Leaguers, three small college grads, and 1 who
didn't attend. It would seem that prestiege intellectual credentials don't
necessarily translate into sucess in the White House.

Well, to be fair, Bush the Sequel does have an MBA from Yale, but

Ole' Newt Gingrich I believe has a couple of advanced degrees, too,
and is (ironically) a noted futurist.

I think it comes down to communication skills, really. I've noticed
that the smartest folks don't always communicate the best. Look at how
wordy Clinton was during his address at the 1988 Democratic
Convention, and the early part of his campaign in 1992. Once he was
told to shut the hell up once in a while, his popularity grew.

I believe he was the last man to be President without having a college
education. Public school education in Missouri, I think.

Also a KKK sympathizer who did more to push back civil rights for
blacks than anybody since Jefferson Davis. The more history looks at
Woodrow Wilson, the bleaker the picture becomes. Possibly the most
hatred-filled man who ever held the Presidency.

There's a very good book called "Lies My Teacher Told Me" that takes
Wilson to task for all of the many mistakes of his administration and
his personality. A very entertaining read that also covers the
Indians, the Pilgrims, Helen Keller, and how history is taught
horribly in our schools.

While a leader (President) ultimately makes up his own mind on decisions, he

Like any CEO, he's able to delegate responsiblity.

Being a non-college graduate, Mr. Truman, a Missouri Haberdasher, served the
West splendidly by being "plain folk", he looked at a problem and decided
that ending a decade-old WWII by dropping two A-bombs on civilians in
Japanese (enemy) cities and saving perhaps a million lives....was a

He didn't need a Yale, Princeton, or Harvard degree to assist him.

The Liberals cling to power by creating a Class-Warfare mentality.

The ONLY solidifying thing they agree upon is killing the unborn. Other
than that, they are nothing but a group of special interest cabals.

Their constituency (power) is the African-American...who continue to vote
for leaders that *KEEP* them in economic slavery with their cradle to grave
welfare systems.

The Asian and Middle Eastern immigrants seem to do quite nicely starting our
with virtually nothing, while the African-American continues to be the
source of 95% of major crime and the major source of destroying their own
neighborhoods.

The Democratic Party has ruled Maryland for the past eight years, and have
given us a $1.7 Billion deficit. Glendenning is AWOL. The press is AWOL.

They continue to squelch and shit upon their constituence by not builing the
ICC and keeping us in gridlock.

They call for more gun-control, when it is proven that more lives are saved
and crime prevented when the potential victim has a firearm to rely upon.
They do not enforce the gun laws already on the books.

They have called for a moratorium on the death penalty, yet scream bloody
murder to have the right to try the two snipers.

As long as Bill Clinton's ilk run the Democratic Party, they will continue
to go down the toilet (a good thing).

They are nothing but a bunch of Socialists who are bent upon destroying the
America I grew up in. Fuck them all.

They should all be arrested and made accountable for their crimes.

And, the press is duplicitous as well as the National Education Association.

Their goal is to rule a country of drones with no way to revolt against the
tyranny that awaits us...except with rocks and sticks and suicide bombers,
ala the Palistinians.

I'm glad I am 56 years old and won't live to see the destruction of the
United States of America at the hands of the fucking Liberals.

It certainly would be a good thing, so long as the Republicans followed.

Actually, I take that back. What would truly be a good thing if they
could both simply mature as humans as quickly as possible. But then,
paradigm shifts occur funeral by funeral. Most people lose their
willingness to grow soon after adulthood begins, and they typically
don't regain such willingness until after old age has set in (if then).

Oh, I have. Wilson literally was that bad. Jackson was pretty much a
jackass, no doubt about it. Wilson had a bunch of fancy book learnin'
that allowed him to hide his true persona. One of the numerous reasons
that Congress didn't approve the League of Nations was that WW left a
provision in there allowing for the growth of slavery. He fired every
black civil servant in DC (back when the Feds still had control of
day-tod-day operations in the city) and reintroduced Jim Crow laws
back to DC. It's rumoured he held a KKK meeting in the White House,
though I don't know if it can be or has been proved. He was a naughty
fella, though.

Amazingly, he's been cited as the next President most Americans want
symbolized on Mount Rushmore, during polls taken in the Reagan
Administration. Because "he kept us out of war" - which obviously he
didn't, and initially sided with the Germans. He receives this praise
with, shockingly, high acceptance percentages in the black community!

What in God's name are you talking about? And, please. You tak about
abortion like it's serial murder. It's a medical procedure. It's not
something I could see getting myself involved in, but I certainly
don't care if somebody else wants to do it. It's no more shocking to
me than the death penalty or certainly war. And I have the same
opinion of it as the death penalty: I can see both sides of the
argument, but it doesn't keep me up at night. In the end it's fairly
unlikely that either one will effect me. It's really fucking
hypocritical to call oneself 'pro-life' and at the same time support
the death penalty and war. I have no overwhelming objections to the
death penalty, but I have trouble understanding logic that says a
glorified tadpole is somehow more of a person than an adult human
being. But, yeah, it's odd that abortion's become such a dominant
issue; euthenasia and stem cell research are much more significant
medical issues on which the Republican party is being ignorantly
moralistic.

African-Americans aren't immigrants--they're people who were brought
here as slaves, released after a few hundred years into a society that
continued to see them as subhuman, and had significantly fewer rights
than everyone else up unitl less than 50 years ago. It's a pretty
different scenario from moving to a different place because there's
more opportunity there. And as long as there are people as
understanding as you making noise, it's gonna be a long time yet
before black people in America feel lucky to be here.

The economy went up and the crime rate went down during 8 years of
Bill Clinton. But I'm sure you will say that it's because Clinton
followed 12 years of Republican leadership. You will excuse away all
the good things and pay attention to only the bad because you are

You're nuts, plain and simple. If any party is tightening the clamps

Oh, that's right! Forgive me. I forgot.

Colin Powell is merely a slave in the White Master's House. And Condaleeza
Rice, too...according to the Banana Boat man.

That's because Liberalism says that you are not able to take care of
yourself or make your own decisions. That Liberalism advocates shirking
personal responsibility for one's personal decisions. That the government
knows better.

A "medical procedure"...akin to having a wart removed, right?

And, to equate a woman's right to kill her unborn child with war is

This wasn't meant to become a thread on Roe vs. Wade.

But to compare an innocent fetus with a person that has been convicted of a
capital crime shows just how jaded you are.

Who in the fuck cares that their great-grandaddy was a slave?
What in the fuck does *THAT* have to do with the Blacks' dilemma in the
United States today?

There is only one thing that will cure Welfare as we know it.

Forced sterilization to maintain welfare benefits. Race shouldn't enter
into the equation.

The economic books were proven to be cooked....overestimated by some 30%. A
recession was in full swing before Bush was elected in 2000.

Welfare reform was shoved down Clinton's throat after he tried
unsuccessfully to veto it on numerous occasions. Then, when jobs increased
as welfare rolls decreased, the fucking Liberals tried to take the credit.

The reason the United States budget didn't mirror the Maryland budget in
terms of deficits was because since 1994, the Republicans have controlled
the purse strings.

You can look it up.

Just how am is my generation "fucking up the world", Pete?

If Mondale were president instead of Reagan, there would still be a Soviet
Union today, and Israel would be a footnote in history.
Or, do you consider that a good thing...you and your World Order crowd?

We've just seen how effective Clinton was in keeping nuclear arms away from
North Korea. And, he also gave China a 50 year leap forward in the arms
race. (his own words).

You should get down on your knees every night and thank your god that Bush
and not Gore is President today, you whiney little bitch. ;^)

True, and not only that, but his war propaganda campaign essentially
set the precendent for a political trend that has done - and continues
to do - untold damage. Certainly there was propaganda in this country
before Wilson served, but Wilson took it to the next level. Following
the wild success of that propaganda campaign, integrity in American
politics gradually shrunk until it all but vanished. There's certainly
very little trace of it these days.

Well, the ultimate problem with liberal thinking today is that it is
too focused on the external, with little or no consideration for the
internal. Give people money, homes, clothing, anything they need, and
everything will become better. By contrast, the ultimate problem with
conservative thinking is that they are too focused on the internal,
with little or no consideration for the external.

A democrat would rather give a man a fish than teach him to fish. A
republican would rather just fish and expect the man to learn by
watching, despite his lack of a fishing pole.

Let's cut this liberal/conservative shit and get down to brass tacks.
This is a Democrat/Republican thing, and if you think that both
parties aren't doing the same thing, then you're as stupid as you are
offensive.

Who are you to determine who does and doesn't DESERVE death? The
anti-abortion movement is based largely on issues of religious faith,
faith which says that only God can determine who should live and who
should die.

>A "medical procedure"...akin to having a wart removed, right?

Sure, why not. It's also a medical procedure that is overwhelmingly
supported by doctors. I'll anticipate your saying somehting about
doctors playing God, to which I'd have to say something along the lins
of, "Oh, but it's okay for governments to play God, sending other
peoples children to kill and die overseas?"

>

I don't equate the two. I questioned how people who loudly claim to
be PRO-LIFE can be such big fans of death.

A fetus doesn't have much choice but to be innocent, does it? And
who's to say that a murderer can't turn his or her life around and
actually do something worthwhile?

It has to do with the incredible depths from which black people have
been forced to climb. It means that there is going to be a great deal
of resentment thanks to people like you who prefer to ignore history
and pretend that everyone is on equal footing in this country.

By destroying Social Security and by turning the world against us (on
the premise that we really don't need them now, never mind what
happens in the future when we actually do need the rest of the world
to come to our defense).

I consider that neither a good thing nor true. But it is funny to me
how you right-wing kooks are starting to sound like left-wing kooks
with this whole New World Order thing, particularly since it was a
term introduced by Bush 41.

Why? Because if Supreme Court had handed Gore the Presidency then I
wouldn't have gotten that stupid $600 check last year? Because we
would have had someone who can actually speak the language as our
mouthpiece? You don't actually think that G.W. is the only guy with
enough balls to bomb Afghanistan, do you? He is, however, the only
guy who wants to enter into an unprovoked war in order to avenge his
daddy.
