Speaking of which, my only real quibble with this list of the five
worst calls in postseason history is that Eric Gregg's massive strike
zone should be No. 1 rather than No. 5, because Gregg's calls weren't
an accident; he got them wrong on purpose!

I seem to recall an interview years after the fact where Gregg
basically said "so what if it was a ball?", but I really don't
remember any "I got them wrong on purpose" statements. Certainly none
that gave a reason for it. Does anybody remember anything more
particular than that?

I can't find anything on the net, but I recall in interviews after
the game he was saying things like "it's good to see the kid do
well" which at least gave the appearance that he was wink-wink nudge-
nudge admitting to calling for him. Maybe it was all the bile in my
system, but that's how I heard it.

I believe he said it's always been "his" strike zone, as if he's free to
ignore the rule book, and call balls and strikes as he sees fit.

Of course, that was bullshit anyway. Clearly, he wouldn't have lasted
as long as he did if that had always been "his" strike zone.
